Source: KOTA TV

STURGIS, S.D. - A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon on Highway 79, seven miles north of Sturgis, making him the 13th fatality in the deadliest rally on record.

(snip)

With the official end of the 75th rally, the highway patrol data shows that the number of crashes (injury and non injury) are double what they were last year; and deaths are three times higher than 2014.

Here is a list of the fatal crashes during the 75th Sturgis Rally:

I'm not a biker but for some reason I have always hit it off with bikers and surfers (and I don't look at all like either).

What? They don't like the tourist business?
Or don't they have the patience to just let them spend their cash?

They try to use the mass gathering of bikers to hide. Sometimes law enforcement is indifferent, and many of the locals are compromised. Depending on who in federal law enforcement is in charge, sometimes a blind eye is turned, sometimes the bikies leave town early especially if they have outstanding warrants .

Some of the road accidents are murders.

One of the worst of the WOD rights infractions is civil forfeiture in that basically the police can take your shit and you have to prove they had no cause.

packs of people that try to pass themselves off as humans. They descend on a small town in the middle of no where. Its a wonder there wasn't more drugging, drinking & dying. The place is definitely not the place to bring your wife or girlfriend. Its become an orgy of excess. I've had friends that went every year well into their early 80's that finally decided it wasn't their cup of tea any more.

It may not be every wife or girlfriend's thing, but some enjoy it quite a bit. The communities and parks that bikers pass through to get to Sturgis benefit to a huge degree as well. I quit going when the biker selfie became popular. There's something disconcerting about leather clad selfie-takers. It breaks the whole zeitegeist somehow -- like seeing a cowboy riding the range while wearing a bicycle helmet. That's probably just me, though.

I had a coworker that went this year, that's crazy that the population doubles. Of course there's going to be a lot of crime that comes with it.
