Trump’s Lead Grows After Debate, Controversy
Source: Morning Consult
Trump leads the Republican field with 32 percent of the vote, up 7 percentage points over last weeks Morning Consult tracking poll. Trumps nearest GOP rival, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, clocked in at 11 percent.
No other Republican contender reaches double digits retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson sits in third place at 9 percent, followed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 6 percent.
...snip...
The share of Republican primary voters who say they view Trump favorably increased since the last tracking poll, to 62 percent from 57 percent. But the number of registered voters who say they see Trump unfavorably remains high 52 percent of all voters say they see him in a negative light. That makes Trump both the most popular candidate within the Republican field and the least popular candidate Republicans could nominate for next years general election.

(94,727 posts)I think they did corporate polling and decided to add some political questions for publicity
The polling industry is in a state of flux. Pollsters who conduct surveys for partisan clients and for media organizations are struggling to figure out how to understand the American electorate, especially at a moment when more of us are eschewing landline phones in favor of cell phones.
At Morning Consult, were embracing a new way of contacting voters, one that we think gives us the ability to survey voters and model the electorate in a timely, accurate manner. And we want to be transparent about that process. To that end, we offer answers to these frequently asked questions about how we conduct our polls:
Who paid for the surveys?
Morning Consult regularly runs surveys containing both Morning Consult and client content. When we have room for additional questions (which happens in almost every poll we run), our editorial and polling teams independently write questions. Those questions are never vetted or approved by any clients. The data produced from questions that the Morning Consult editorial and polling teams write is proprietary to Morning Consult.
How are the polls conducted?
In many polls, especially statewide surveys, we use both live telephone interviews conducted using random digit dialing (RDD) and online interviews using several well-known, well-respected national vendors to provide a broad cross-section of registered voters across the country. For our weekly 2,000 person national polls, we use several national online vendors to recruit a broad cross-section of Americans.

(1,242 posts)in looking at their web site in the 'about' page under the heading 'our readers' they list National Journal and Politico readers. I also couldn't find when they started. CorporationWiki website lists them as an 'Advertising Agency'.

(30,884 posts)The vague methodology description posted by brooklynite has many of the right words but it's not the same as a methodology report which would allow an independent assessment of their methods and conclusions. They seem to be members of AAPOR, the leading organization for polling/survey interviewing professionals.
