Longtime Ohio Congressman Louis Stokes Dies at 90

Source: Associated Press/ABC

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Aug 19, 2015, 7:46 AM ET
Associated Press

Former U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes, a 15-term congressman from Ohio who took on tough assignments looking into assassinations and scandals, has died. He was 90.

His death, confirmed by a family statement, comes a month after he announced he had brain and lung cancer.

Stokes was elected to the House in 1968, becoming Ohio's first black member of Congress and one of its most respected and influential. Just a year earlier, his brother, Carl, had been elected mayor of Cleveland — the first black elected mayor of a major U.S. city.

Louis Stokes was the dean of the delegation until he stepped down in 1999.

Stokes headed the House's Select Committee on Assassinations that investigated the slayings of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the late 1970s and concluded that in both cases, there "probably" had been a conspiracy.

Later, he served on the Iran-Contra investigative committee, where he drew attention with his unflinching interrogation of Lt. Col. Oliver North.

"What we seek to do in covert operations is to mask the role of the United States from other countries, not from our own government," Stokes told North at a highly publicized hearing in 1987.

Just when the investigation was about to be completely derailed by political infighting cough CIA interference Luis Stokes kept the House Select Committee on Assassinations alive and moving forward. I think the world of the Stokes Brothers.

I met him and he told me the second committee on assassinations came to conclusion that JFK was definitely murdered in a wide ranging conspiracy. They just couldn't get enough evidence to pin on certain people. It was too vast. And he told me when IranContra hearings were forced onto secret executive session it was because Bush allies were caught importing cocaine and when questioned behind closed doors they all lied through their teeth. Stokes was a real Rep...the best. All the coincidence theorists here are extremely lame and lack the ability to evaluate reality clearly without personal bias.

Just like Dallas, there's tons of Peruvian marching powder more to that Ollie North story. And just like Dallas, the same "class" of folks are involved, even some of the same individuals. Take George Bush, by pardoning the Iran-Contra Gang, he effectively pardoned himself. It's something he may've learned early in his career in Capitalism's Invisible Army:

George Bush Takes Charge: The Uses of ‘Counter-Terrorism’

By Christopher Simpson
Covert Action Quarterly 58

A paper trail of declassified documents from the Reagan‑Bush era yields valuable information on how counter‑terrorism provided a powerful mechanism for solidifying Bush's power base and launching a broad range of national security initiatives.

During the Reagan years, George Bush used "crisis management" and "counter‑terrorism" as vehicles for running key parts of the clandestine side of the US government.

Bush proved especially adept at plausible denial. Some measure of his skill in avoiding responsibility can be taken from the fact that even after the Iran‑Contra affair blew the Reagan administration apart, Bush went on to become the "foreign policy president," while CIA Director William Casey, by then conveniently dead, took most of the blame for a number of covert foreign policy debacles that Bush had set in motion.

The trail of National Security Decision Directives (NSDDS) left by the Reagan administration begins to tell the story. True, much remains classified, and still more was never committed to paper in the first place. Even so, the main picture is clear: As vice president, George Bush was at the center of secret wars, political murders, and America's convoluted oil politics in the Middle East.

SNIP...

Reagan and the NSC also used NSDDs to settle conflicts among security agencies over bureaucratic turf and lines of command. It is through that prism that we see the first glimmers of Vice President Bush's role in clandestine operations during the 1980s.

SNIP...

NSDD 159. MANAGEMENT OF U.S. COVERT OPERATIONS, (TOP SECRET/VEIL‑SENSITIVE), JAN. 18,1985

The Reagan administration's commitment to significantly expand covert operations had been clear since before the 1980 election. How such operations were actually to be managed from day to day, however, was considerably less certain. The management problem became particularly knotty owing to legal requirements to notify congressional intelligence oversight committees of covert operations, on the one hand, and the tacitly accepted presidential mandate to deceive those same committees concerning sensitive operations such as the Contra war in Nicaragua, on the other.

The solution attempted in NSDD 159 was to establish a small coordinating committee headed by Vice President George Bush through which all information concerning US covert operations was to be funneled. The order also established a category of top secret information known as Veil, to be used exclusively for managing records pertaining to covert operations.

The system was designed to keep circulation of written records to an absolute minimum while at the same time ensuring that the vice president retained the ability to coordinate US covert operations with the administration's overt diplomacy and propaganda.

Only eight copies of NSDD 159 were created. The existence of the vice president's committee was itself highly classified.
The directive became public as a result of the criminal prosecutions of Oliver North, John Poindexter, and others involved in the Iran‑Contra affair, hence the designation "Exhibit A" running up the left side of the document.

Just like in Iran-Contra, Bush's name is associated with the treasonous events of Nov. 22, 1963:

Poppy Bush warned FBI -- AFTER -- JFK assassinated.

In the hour of the death of President John F. Kennedy, Texas oilman George Herbert Walker Bush named a suspect to the FBI in a "confidential" phone call. He then added he was heading for Dallas. Skeptics need not take my word for it, that's what Poppy told the FBI:

Here's a transcript of the text:

TO: SAC, HOUSTON DATE: 11-22-63

FROM: SA GRAHAM W. KITCHEL

SUBJECT: UNKNOWN SUBJECT;
ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT
JOHN F. KENNEDY

At 1:45 p.m. Mr. GEORGE H. W. BUSH, President of the Zapata Off-Shore Drilling Company, Houston, Texas, residence 5525 Briar, Houston, telephonically furnished the following information to writer by long distance telephone call from Tyler, Texas.

BUSH stated that he wanted to be kept confidential but wanted to furnish hearsay that he recalled hearing in recent weeks, the day and source unknown. He stated that one JAMES PARROTT has been talking of killing the President when he comes to Houston.

BUSH stated that PARROTT is possibly a student at the University of Houston and is active in political matters in this area. He stated that he felt Mrs. FAWLEY, telephone number SU 2-5239, or ARLINE SMITH, telephone number JA 9-9194 of the Harris County Republican Party Headquarters would be able to furnish additional information regarding the identity of PARROTT.

BUSH stated that he was proceeding to Dallas, Texas, would remain in the Sheraton-Dallas Hotel and return to his residence on 11-23-63. His office telephone number is CA 2-0395.

Gee. Why was Poppy Bush in Dallas when JFK was assassinated?

Could it be, he was on official business? I suspect he was on Secret Government business. After all, his eldest son bragged during his Texas Air National Guard and Harvard grad school days that his daddy was CIA.

Here's an FBI document from the same week of the assassination in which FBI Director J Edgar Hoover briefed one "Mr. George Bush of the Central Intelligence Agency." Some strange coincidence there, wot?

Here's a transcript of the above:

Date: November 29, 1963

To: Director
Bureau of Intelligence and Research
Department of State

From: John Edgar Hoover, Director

Subject: ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY
NOVEMBER 22, 1963

Our Miami, Florida, Office on November 23, 1963, advised that the Office of Coordinator of Cuban Affairs in Miami advised that the Department of State feels some misguided anti-Castro group might capitalize on the present situation and undertake an unauthorized raid against Cuba, believing that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy might herald a change in U. S. policy, which is not true.

Our sources and informants familiar with Cuban matters in the Miami area advise that the general feeling in the anti-Castro Cuban community is one of stunned disbelief and, even among those who did not entirely agree with the President's policy concerning Cuba, the feeling is that the President's death represents a great loss not only to the U. S. but to all of Latin America. These sources know of no plans for unauthorized action against Cuba.

An informant who has furnished reliable information in the past and who is close to a small pro-Castro group in Miami has advised that these individuals are afraid that the assassination of the President may result in strong repressive measures being taken against them and, although pro-Castro in their feelings, regret the assassination.

The substance of the foregoing information was orally furnished to Mr. George Bush of the Central Intelligence Agency and Captain William Edwards of the Defense Intelligence Agency on November 23, 1963, by Mr. W. T. Forsyth of this Bureau.

I do remember that GHWB was head of the CIA when the Church Committee was looking into the CIA assassination programs. He made things all friendly-like and turned what had been a serious hunt for truth under previous DCI Colby into another dog-and-pony show that was big on show and light on facts.

Regarding Dallas: Now I don't know if Poppy was a trigger man, was only there to watch what happened or what just happened to be there. I do know Poppy Bush has never explained these memos. He's never even admitted where he was the day JFK was killed.

Seeing how he would go on to become President, as would his dim son, I believe it's vitally important that we learn the Truth.

Why? The United States and the world haven't been the same since November 22, 1963. And not a single major player in the nation's mass media have stepped up and demanded a real investigation. So, it's up to us, We the People.

What's more, Poppy Bush sheltered mass-murdering jet-bombing terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles.

Washington once knew a brave man named Louis Stokes. He stood up the War Party. Thank you for sharing and remembering and doing the same, billhicks76!

Poppy Bush was knee deep In Iran-Contra.we could spend all day talking about things which suggest George Bush may have been
recruited into CIA In late 1940's.

Reagan may have been In early stages of Althmeizer's throughout his second term.

let's not forget there may have been cover-up of the other part of iran-contra.Bringing cocaine into US to help support the contras

11. We should ask Celerino ''Cele'' Castillo, ex-DEA.

The man who wrote the following was a DEA agent, stationed in Central America. Celerino "Cele" Castillo witnessed Ollie North's people unloading guns and loading cocaine for the trip North (no pun intended). The testimony also shows why the pukes hate the guy who has the goods on them, John Kerry.

As you know, robbins, their rationale for keeping it all covered up is "national security." They use "national security" to justify their actions, especially when unconstitutional, but most especially when treasonous. So, they make Senators and Secretaries of State swear oaths to protect them.

for their actions or to keep information secret. If JFK assassination was just work of loner who had no ties to anyone why so many files they had to keep secret.

John Kerry did his best to expose the truth.Oliver North attacking Kerry is best endorsement to show Kerry would have been
different than bushes.

Kerry neograting Iran deal is why right is so opposed to it.while there are things we can be critical of obama on the iran deal isn't one of them.

The day JFK was assassinated. Really? He's the only guy in the US who can't. Just like 911 everyone recalled instantly. And yes there are also DEA agents who claim Jeb and GW were caught on video in a sting operation buying a kilo of cocaine for a party.

he seemed to be very careful with what he said In public.which is smart.when Hale Boggs started questioning warren commession In public his plane disappeared over alaska never to be found again.

The HSCA had to have files keep under wraps. They had enough to question the oswald in mexico city and only 3 shots were fired.
some forget they concluded there had probally been conspiracy to kill JFK and likelyhood of conspiracy to kill MLK.

the iran contra thing may have started in 1980 and MSM has ignored fact cocaine running may have been part of Iran-Contra.

I personally viewed iran-contra as worse than watergate.Poppy Bush may have been the most dirty man ever to sit In Oval Office.
