Confused and garbled: Mike Huckabee blunders his way through Israel press conference

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee delivered a confused and garbled press conference in Jerusalem during a brief campaign stop, which included a controversial fundraising visit to a settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.
At times taking positions to the right of Israels government, the former governor of Arkansas at one stage described Russia as the Soviet Union when referring to its plans to supply Iran with S-300 anti-aircraft missiles before correcting himself.
He also seemed to suggest that the West Bank bordered one of Israels enemies, as opposed to Jordan, which has long enjoyed a peace treaty with Israel.
As Huckabee left the press conference, he also said he was unsure if he would be the first US president to abandon a commitment to a two-state solution, despite having no policy he could articulate on the future of Palestinians.

(58,724 posts)JERUSALEM Israel is not considered a battleground state like Florida, but the tens of thousands of American citizens living here are voting as if it were.
"So many of us still have jobs in the U.S. We have family and friends in the U.S., customers, clients and investors in the U.S.," says Elie Pieprz, director of iVoteIsrael, an organization that helps Americans living here cast ballots in their home states.
And many come from states that may decide who becomes the next U.S. president.
Pieprz says as many as 30,000 of the 300,000 U.S. citizens living here voted in previous presidential elections. He estimates that 75,000 will have cast ballots in this election between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

(11,843 posts)1500 votes per state, if one got every single vote and US citizens were evenly divided across the US. Not worth it unless it serves some other purpose, such as highlighting foreign travel.

(11,843 posts)Please provide links to prove that every major candidate (from both parties) has traveled to Israel to campaign. And since I'm feeling generous, you can skip prior to the 2000 elections.

(11,843 posts)Your claim, your proof.
And what a stunningly ridiculous notion that I would try to prove a negative.
To be honest, I was expecting you to weasel on "both parties" or "major candidates", but you folded on the whole deal...

I'll ask you to prove it, again. Deflection and denial, as usual, is all I expect.

(26,060 posts)me homework assignment also. Do you believe the fucking nerve of some people? If I need a source or a link, I politely ask for it. This DEMANDING bullshit has gotten out of hand and shows many have the manners of an alleycat in heat.

(26,060 posts)There is simply no excuse for people who are supposed to be on the same side to treat one another the way some have acted.

(11,843 posts)If one is going to make a dumbass claim like ALL of X do Y, one better be prepared to show their work. Much batter to say MANY or SOME, than to box oneself in to a corner.
And ballsy to try to say that it is the other person's job to prove the claim one makes isn't true.
It isn't demanding to ask someone to prove the bullshit they just spouted. The person can either back up their claim, or simply be honest and say "Sorry, I pulled that shit out of my ass, for no apparent reason and have absolutely nothing to hang that stupid ass claim on."
Asking for a link is fine. DEMANDING - as this poster did quite clearly - is not.
Thor_MN
(11,843 posts)I'm the one that asked for the proof.
The other poster, the one who said they don't take homework assignments, has a history of making bullshit, grandiose claims. And badgering other people for proof on statements. You obviously couldn't know that there have been exchanges between us in the past. Now, I generally don't bother with that person. But when they reply to me, with yet another absolute claim (ALL candidates go to Israel) that is difficult, if not impossible to prove, I will call the bullshit.
That poster has claimed to be a lawyer. That poster does like to argue. Not well, like in asking me to prove it wasn't true, but if there's a shred of a leg to stand on, it will go for days.

(63,912 posts)Um...I guess I know the answer to that question...
When I was an ESOL volunteer tutor I had students that were from West African countries and the first thing I would do is get an Atlas and look up exactly where their countries are and read something about their histories. The library I was tutoring in had some atlases that were so old they had their former names and boundaries and should have been thrown out. Then I would have conversations (I only tutored intermediate and advanced learners) and ask them to talk about their history and culture (such as food!) to get them as conversant as possible.

Sounds like you were a good instructor.

(63,912 posts)preventing me from doing the research and lesson planning I really needed to do, in order to serve my students. But I really loved them and admired them for going to class to learn English even tho they were working 2 and 3 jobs. They were very determined and conscientious. And many also spoke other tribal languages and French.
Interestingly, when I was tutoring Afghani refugees I was prevented from tutoring men and only male tutors could do that. And only female tutors could tutor the women.

(15,392 posts)Doesn't he know that his boy, Josh, is in trouble again? Plus, depending on his political leanings, Huckabee might want to issue a statement of support for Jared.
