The Latest: Christie says he'd work with unions, unlike Bush

Source: AP

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) — The latest from the New Hampshire Education Summit, where six Republican presidential contenders were scheduled to answer questions about their views on K-12 public education in interviews with advocate Campbell Brown. (All times are local.)

4:16 p.m.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reiterating his assertion that the nation's teachers unions need a "punch in the face."

He says the unions are "punching us all the time." Christie spoke at an education summit in New Hampshire.

Christie has long clashed with the teachers unions in his state. But he also stressed his willingness to work with union leaders — something he said differentiates him from one of his chief rivals, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Not to put too fine a point on it.

That's how he suckered New Jerseyites, by flat out lying. They're onto him now, though.

In today's GOP, he needs to take the Walker Stance (insert any visual image here), you need to be as hard core anti-union as possible, it today's GOP it is destroy unions, not work with them.

What is he talking about? The teacher's unions are punching him all the time?

I've got news for you, Christie. We're not interested in punching matches, and furthermore, we don't even have that "fight" mentality. All we're interested in is a decent wage for the very important work we do. We want all the others things that typical Americans have, too, like insurance and a pension. We want to do our jobs and work with our students, not have to struggle, like the situation many teachers are now in--thanks to you and policies you've managed to get through. An example is what Christie did with PERC.

This remark says way more about Christie than it says about anything, including Jeb Bush. It says that Christie thinks in terms of punches, just like Donald Trump thinks in terms of "losers."
