Greek PM Tsipras to resign on Thursday: government official

Source: Reuters

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will submit his resignation to the country's president later Thursday to clear the way for early elections on Sept. 20, a government official said.

Tspiras, elected in January, is expected to make a televised state address on Thursday evening.

Tsipras effectively lost his parliamentary majority after a rebellion by hardliners in his Syriza party who oppose a bailout agreement struck with international lenders.

The party of the extreme right? That would be much worse.

The Northern Europeans have won a Pyrrhic victory in my view.

Greece cannot repay its debts. It doesn't have the ability to do that.

The only answers are Grexit or debt forgiveness realistically seen.

So the Northern European governments have made themselves look good for the moment, but in the long wrong, the situation in Greece is just going to get worse unless something changes at the international level.

This is not really good news. There is no good news from Greece, and there won't be for a long time. No one has a plan for economic health for Greece. There is no happy ending to that story.

So, I really don't particularly support his exit. It's really not going to help anything. And it could even hurt.

More likely that there will be a hardline RW government.
This austerity 'compromise' is the result of policies of the previous 'mainstream' politicians.
The ones that got Greece into this mess to begin with.
But of course Syriza, who courted the disaffected Greek suffering for the bankers and 1% not 'demagogued' its way to power, are the ones to blame....

I suspect PASOK is the only party that might have enough seats and is on the left side of the spectrum that can help Syzira form a coalition government.

and, lets not forget that the Angela Merkle's and the Goldman Sach's of the world got what they wanted--------------austerity-------------- from afar---------------------, they rule from afar even though they were not on the ballot, and you will do as we say, this is the future----------------- live with it

oops----------------- I mean which MSM is going to fully report this development in this country, (I can only think of three off hand --------Free Speech TV, Ring of Fire, and Democracy Now as being legitimate news sources in this country)------------- because, right now we are in a lot of the same right wing corrupt sense, being asked, oops----------being forced to go down this path also, blame the population -------------oops, again----------- to accept the AUSTERITY as means of survival and its death spiral programs, while the smiling face on MSM, Congress stand in front of us says nothing, talking out of both sides of the proverbial mouth except at the same time stabbing us in the back-------------amazing and all we hear is about the right wing clown car every night.

Oldie but goodie:

We have corporations (like Goldman) from afar bank rolling the elections in this country and we have the same corrupt institutions bankrupting the planet in everything, and now we have this right wing CONGRESS ON SUMMER VACATION AGAIN-------------just like they are in school.

And the Greek people have to get permission from Germany and any other nefarious entity to basically beg for existence--------------amazing

ground out a populist political movement. One sees many if one watches western "democratic" politics. Left or right, if you want real change, they will try to divide your support, then co-opt your issues and make them look foolish.

Which he has done very well to Syriza. He reminds me of Yats in Ukraine a bit. The kamikaze change agent that brings more of the same.

That is why "leaderless" movements are in, they are much harder to control because there are no leaders to co-opt, or at least there are more of them and they are harder to find.
