PARIS (AP) The far-right National Fronts second-in-command said Friday that the party had no choice but to expel its founder, Jean-Marie Le Pen, because he was ruining the anti-immigration party.
Florian Philippot said on BFM-TV that Thursdays decision to kick out the 87-year-old Le Pen was justified because he went from provocation to provocation in a work of destruction.
Le Pens expulsion was the climax of a feud with his daughter, party president Marine Le Pen, that began in April and has since turned into a political drama. Polls suggest that she has a serious shot at the French presidency in the countrys 2017 election.

(24,692 posts)which has been replaced on the French far-right by Islamophobia. If Mr. Le Pen cannot keep up with the changing "enemy du jour" he must be made to take a step back. The far-right is a clown show of hatred but it is a dangerous one.

(1,986 posts)I don't see anything in the story about "destroying" the far right. The party is doing better under Marie than it ever did under her dad. Why? Because she soft pedals antisemitism and pushes anti-Islamism, which is more appealing to voters nowadays.
