N.J. judge approves controversial Christie, Exxon settlement

Source: Newark Star-Ledger

A New Jersey judge on Thursday approved a controversial settlement between the Christie administration and ExxonMobil over contamination at its old industrial sites in North Jersey.

Superior Court Judge Michael Hogan, in an 81-page decision, called the deal "fair, reasonable, in the public interest, and consistent with the goals of the Spill Compensation and Control Act."

The Texas oil giant agreed to pay $225 million to settle the decade-old suit, in which the state alleged damage to wetlands, marshes and waterways surrounding two refineries, known as Bayway and Bayonne. The case grew to include Exxon's industrial facilities and gas stations around the state.

While Gov. Chris Christie and his officials had hailed the settlement, which represents a higher per-acre receipt that previous pollution cases, the deal drew scorn from environmental groups and Democratic lawmakers, who accused the administration of caving for a fraction of its demands.

And the beginning of the end of his presidential run.

All we'd have to do is a commercial about what New Jersey could have done with that money -- without raising taxes or reducing services.

I just quit! The world is for sale and Christie owns one of the franchises.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

here's a link to some background for those unfamiliar with just how dirty a deal this is....Anatomy of a Sellout

Anatomy of a Sellout.......just so we're all clear on how things work in this country. Let's take a trip in the Wayback Machine (well maybe not so Wayback) to early March when news of Chris Christie's billion dollar giveaway to ExxonMobil first hit the news. How-or why-could someone sell out the future of their state to a mega corporation that had spent generations destroying the state's natural resources? As puzzling a question as that might be, the answer turns out to be pretty simple. You can sum it up in three words-Pay to Play.

Everybody needs to own a Chris Christie. He works even better than the Eggtastic.
