Ashley Madison faked female profiles to lure men in, hacked data suggest

Last edited Wed Aug 26, 2015, 05:48 AM - Edit history (1)

Ashley Madison has long claimed, in triumphant news releases and slick, Web-ready graphics, that it is one of the few dating sites that really clicks with women. According to statistics CEO Noel Biderman has trumpeted in the media, Ashley Madison enjoys an overall 70/30 gender split — with a 1:1 male/female ratio among the under-30 set.

But the user records laid bare by hackers last week tell a very different story: Of the more than 35 million records released, only 5 million — a mere 15 percent — actually belonged to women.

<snip>

Until mid-2014, the company openly ran a program called “Ashley’s Angels,” in which paid AM employees messaged visitors from sexy female profiles that weren’t conspicuously identified as fictional. (They were disclaimed, of course, in the company’s small print, where AM explained the program was just an attempt to “provide entertainment.”)

Disgruntled ex-employees have also blown the whistle on what one described, in a 2013 legal filing, as an industry-wide practice. In e-mails revealed by the recent hack and surfaced by the Daily Dot, Louise Van der Velde, a former spokeswoman for the site, threatens to go to the media with the claim that there are “really no women” on the site and that they “simply rip people off.”

Husbands much more likely to kill wives, than wives killing husbands. If ithe AM hack were 50-50, there'd be a lot more murders in the aftermath of this hack.

Now there will be more divorces instead.

But after seeing a number of "investigation discovery shows", I'm more aware of how some women become victims of their spouses' jealous rage, even over relatively innocent flirtations. Ever since the AM hack occurred, I've been thinking about the sad fallout including kids and possible murder victims.

... imagine all the people cheating on the internet with artificially intelligent 'bots, and when they want to take it further than naked Skype and penis pics, maybe they can have an affair with an actual physical robot, at "their" place.

Do you suppose that would be the end of all these scams? Would these cheaters find the "perfect partner" to have an affair with?

Maybe I come from a family of cheapskates, but it was generally agreed if you had to pay for sex (beyond birth control, toys, etc.) then you probably weren't doing it right. Likewise, you could never "owe" anybody sex.

From that perspective sites like Ashley Madison don't make any sense.

My ex-brother-in-law had an account on an online affairs service and wasn't even married. Said he wanted a no-strings attached relationship and figured he'd get it with a married woman. In the two years he was a member, he only had three dates. Two of them looked like they rassled gators and the third one wanted $1,000 from him. Seriously, what did an old grizzled ex-Marine that had gone to seed expect? Pretty girls can walk into the nearest nightclub and have their pick of the litter.

All those arrange sex tonight site ads including silly random popups like Kristy wants to meet you tonight, send her a reply here, are excrement.

Using your zip code which sites can obviously pull without our permission, to personalize their pathetic pitches, I am sure you have all seen ads that entice or try to scare you into getting all kinds of things.

Every sex site that comes around, shows 9s and 10s ahead of your registration/payment only to bait horny morans with $, it's a necessary evil for them, if you saw whose really waiting for you in your area, would you join?

Just remember, getting laid randomly is easy for beautiful women, who for whatever reason want that, the internet is not needed as a middle man at all, so ofc these sites are lying their asses off.

Women just don't seek that out as often as men, or as often as men like to think they might.
