Slain Reporter's Father Demands 'Coward' Politicians Take Up Gun Control

Source: Huffington Post

Andy Parker, the father of slain WDBJ journalist Alison Parker, is demanding that politicians restrict access to firearms, saying he will personally become a crusader for this issue if need be.

"If I have to be the John Walsh of gun control and -- look, I'm for the Second Amendment, but there has to be a way to force politicians that are cowards and in the pockets of the NRA to come to grips and make sense -- have sensible laws so that crazy people can't get guns. It can't be that hard," said Parker in an interview with CNN's "New Day."

Walsh created "America's Most Wanted" and became a prominent victims' rights advocate after his son was murdered in 1981.

Alison Parker, 24, was a journalist with WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia. On Wednesday morning, she and her cameraman, Adam Ward, 27, were gunned down during a live broadcast. The gunman, whom police have identified as former station employee Vester Lee Flanagan, also filmed the shooting and put footage of it up on social media.

It brought me to tears. This man, even with his own grief and suffering, was eloquent and right on point. I cannot begin to imagine the pain that he is enduring, but I admire him for wanting to be the vehicle for change.

Heaven knows, we need some common sense!!!

Any one who is any kind of serious political threat is putting themselves in danger. During my sojourn into apposing a recall effort in Colorado a couple of years ago it was very obvious that there is an element in the gun nut group that will seek you out and kill you if you are seen as a real threat politically.

I know what I said may sound extreme but personally during the anti recall campaign you could feel some real threats. I was around some people who were really psychopaths and extremely hate filled. And most had white supremacist attitudes as well.

He sounds like a good man and a good father. I have to wonder what has happened to others who in their grief proposed the same. They get worn down, maybe he'll learn from what happened to them.

halt sale taxes on gun purchases, challenging state gun laws, trying to make it easier for anyone to purchase guns. The NRA is the real ISIS in America, but they have the politicians kissing the NRA executives butts. Our lawmakers are the weakest ever in this nation.

I think in California, whose son was shot to death and was very vocal at least for a time, in favor of more gun controls? Maybe they could join forces.

Was the Virginia shooter on any list? No, he was not. He legally bought his gun and did a background check.
