MA Police Officer Who Said Cruiser Was Shot at Made the Whole Thing Up
Source: WCVB
Remember yesterday when Massachusetts police officers started a manhunt after a cruiser was shot at before crashing and catching fire? It turns out the officer who relayed this information made the whole thing up.
The Massachusetts State Police tweeted yesterday about reports that the cruiser was shot at. Authorities swept the whole area looking for evidence, but it turns out the officer who radioed about being shot at lied.
At a press conference this afternoon, Millis Police Sergeant William Dwyer said the officerwhos new to the force and is only a part-time officerfabricated the whole thing, reportedly fired the shots at the cruiser himself, and is being fired.

"The officer, only identified as 27 years of age, was hired in June and had not yet attended the police academy."

He's fired?
He ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and ordered
to pay restitution and do extensive pyschological evaluation.
Something's wrong with hiring such a cretin in the first place.

(6,148 posts)Idiot messed up the car, needed to find an excuse, claimed to be shot at.
I think it's like the guy in SC that shot the guy in the back then tried to reframe the incident.
Sometimes when people do something wrong, they try to cover it up.
When they get caught, it gets quite ugly. But I don't think he's psycho.

(4,462 posts)The officer must have serious mental health issues or is incompetent or malicious beyond measure.
Thankfully, the department immediately terminated his employment and will take other actions as may be justified and necessary.

Maybe he wanted to add to the data supporting this; maybe he just took one for the team.

(6,409 posts)His mistake was shooting at his car, presumably to make the tale believable. He should have called in and said, "I think somebody just fired at my car, and I ran off the road."
