There's a new effort to organize a United Auto Workers union at Honda's auto assembly plant in Talladega County.
Late last week, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama mailed a letter to its 4,000-plus employees that notes the UAW activity. In the letter, obtained by AL.com, the company says a union is not needed at the Lincoln plant.
Honda says it is successful because of teamwork, open communication and flexibility. The company also says its unionized competitors have faced bankruptcies, plant closures and job losses.
"We believe the evidence shows union operations are not as strong and secure as what we enjoy at HMA," the letter states. "For those reasons, we believe a union is not necessary at HMA."

ALL of the Honda plants in Japan are unionized. This US plant should have a union too.

(51 posts)Honda has devolved in its respect for its products and the people who make them. About ten years back Honda made the Civic Hybrid with dysfunctional batteries. People started complaining that the car would simply die on the highway, or not start the car after a full charge, and their complaints were utterly ignored. Then when the problem could no longer be brushed aside, the US Gov't made some "play nice" noises. Honda replied that they were looking into it, and then continued to ignore the government. I was one of the rubes taken in. Judging by past Honda products I had owned, and no alerts in the media, I purchased a lemon. It took about 4 years for my Honda to start displaying the same problems. I complained, and I was told to go pound salt or buy another Honda for a slight discount. I quickly discovered that the American consumer's good will was now considered irrelevant. The American media to this day ignores the problem because those Honda commercials bring in big bucks.
This latest incident regarding Honda's attempt to thwart the UAW from providing Honda's American workers a fair deal and democratic representation shows how much further Honda has been corrupted by American business practices. All Japanese workers have Union representation. American workers are just not up to Japanese standards. Once again Japanese xenophobia toward the gaijin (the outsider) rears its ugly head.
