Florida attorney general: Cut down rape kit testing backlog

Source: AP

By TAMARA LUSH

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi says thousands of untested rape kits are sitting in the evidence rooms of law enforcement agencies across the state, though the exact number is anybody's guess.

During a news conference Wednesday at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, Bondi called for more funding in the next state budget to process the sexual assault kits.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a study on the number of untested kits and will present the findings to the Legislature in January. The state has committed over $300,000 for the study.

Backlogs for rape testing kits have been a nationwide issue in recent years.

Testing is underfunded, understaffed, and a low priority for everyone but women and you know we don't count.

cops make zero money catching rapists, quite the opposite a department has to spend valuable resources.

they'd rather be on the highways seizing peoples property. thats why pot busts are so important to them. its easy to say 'i smelled pot i had to search the vehicle' the proceed to bust you for any little thing and seize your property.

catching rapists just means helping people and there is no profit in that. thats why so many rape kits and cases go unsolved. and murders. and every other violent crime. no money in it.
