County clerks verify enough signatures to put death penalty on ballot

LINCOLN A pro-death penalty group has submitted more than enough approved signatures to force a referendum on capital punishment during the 2016 general election, the Nebraska Secretary of States Office reported Friday evening.
As of Friday, the office said that county clerks across the state have already verified 65,171 signatures from at least 38 counties, more than enough to meet the 56,942 threshold needed to qualify the issue for the ballot.
Theyve got a strong cushion, Secretary of State John Gale said Friday night.
He said he was very comfortable predicting that when the signatures are finally certified, the referendum has qualified for the ballot.

(13,871 posts)Some referenda require the legislature to ratify the results and the courts can force them to do it if necessary. Others are merely advisory. Anyone know how this works in Nebraska?
I would really hate to see this step backwards.

(32,025 posts)Since you are basing it on religion, let's see. The Islamic nations put people to death and their followers are fine with that. Atheist nations such as China and North Korea put people to death and their people are good with that. The Pope and the majority of the world's Christians oppose the death penalty.

(460 posts)Oh well it is what they want and how they want to live their lives and be just like Saudi Arabia, North Korea and China murdering its citizens.
It will not surprise me in the least to see the state change the victims family for the cost of their state sanctioned murder too.
I would say that I would boycott Nebraska but it would be pointless I have no desire to ever go there and I don't buy, eat or drink anything from Nebraska either pretty much Nebraska has ZERO impact upon my life or well being. Guess I will just continue to ignore the place and only fly over it when I am on my travels between civilized states.
In reality how much longer will Nebraska even be around before it becomes one of the new desert states in the mid west once the current inhabidents have sucked the Ogallala Aquifer dry? Who will the state have left to kill then?
