Three Inmates Dead, Five Hurt in 'Disturbance' at Oklahoma Prison

Source: NBC News

Three inmates are dead and five others were injured after a "disturbance" at a correctional facility in Oklahoma Saturday, the corporation that runs the prison said.

The 40-minute "inmate disturbance" at the Cimarron Correctional Facility was put down by staff at around 4:39 p.m. local time (5:39 p.m. ET), Corrections Corporation of America said in a statement. No facility staff members were hurt, the company said.

The names of the inmates who were killed and injured were not immediately released.

The facility was on lockdown and inmates were confined to their housing pods Saturday, and an investigation was under way, the company said. The disturbance occurred in one housing pod, the company said.

It is not as bad as it looks on TV, it is worse.

Had my nose, orbital bone, and cheek fractured, bottom teeth knocked out and wrist and finger broken in an unprovoked attack by other prisoners. I saw the guards laughing as I tried to shield myself.

I saw a lot of crazy shit go down when I worked in a state mental facility. I could write a book about that.

Nothing that goes on in prison would surprise me.

I watched the entire series "Oz". That was enough to scare me. I know it's fictional but something tells me a lot of that goes on.

I've put it behind me. Long story short - I was walking through a parking lot to attend an event when a cop yelled for me to stop. I didn't hear him. Next thing I know I'm thrown to the ground and handcuffed. I am arraigned via video at 1:00 AM and told I am charged with failure to obey an officer's orders, trespassing and resisting arrest. I was held on $30,000 bond, which meant I had to come up with $3,000 I did not have. It took 2 weeks for my family to get the bail money. In the meantime I got the shit knocked out of me for nothing but for my attackers to prove their prison credibility. I faced the possibility of 2 years in prison.

The cost: $3,000.00 bond, $4,000.00 in attorney bills, $2,000 fine and approximately $5,000 in medical and dental bills. And, of course, my employer fired me while I was incarcerated. I got $300.00 back as a participant in a class action lawsuit. Big deal.

All in the past now. Just a warning - Don't ever get in trouble in Hershey, Pennsylvania. You'll have exorbitant bond and be sent to Dauphin County Prison!

As immigration and incarceration issues become central to the 2016 presidential campaign, lobbyists for two major prison companies are serving as top fundraisers for Hillary Clinton. . . .

As we reported yesterday, fully five Clinton bundlers work for the lobbying and law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Corrections Corporation of America, the largest private prison company in America, paid Akin Gump $240,000 in lobbying fees last year. The firm also serves as a law firm for the prison giant, representing the company in court.

Akin Gump lobbyist and Clinton bundler Brian Popper disclosed that he previously helped CCA defeat efforts to compel private prisons to respond to Freedom of Information Act requests.

How sad is that?

Private corporations lobbying for harsh laws, more prisons and a stronger police state.
