Alabama Town To Ban Saggy Pants and Too-Short Shorts After Councilman ‘Prayed About This’
Source: Raw Story 12 SEP 2015 AT 14:24 ET
A small Alabama town is about to turn their cops into fashion police by passing an ordinance banning saggy pants and too-short shorts that expose too much butt to city residents, reports the Alex City Outlook.
We have people walking down the street with their hand in front of them holding up their pants, Dadeville City Councilman Frank Goodman said. Then they have the nerve to walk into a place of business and ask for a job. If you come to my house you are going to pull them up before you get on my property, much less in my door. I prayed about this. I know that God would not go around with pants down.
Dubbed the Saggy Pants Ordinance, city council member Stephanie Kelley opted to include women who wear too short dresses or booty shorts. My concern is it should be for everybody, Kelley said at Tuesdays Council meeting. I think for the girls, with these shorts up so high looking like under garments and dresses so short, I dont want us to be showing favoritism. It is about respect, Goodman explained. The reason I brought this up is I think people deserve respect when they are in public. I think slacking is disrespectful. I think it gives our younger generation the wrong impression of what is cool.
Other council members agreed with the plan, with James Tarpley saying, I have heard more favorable positive comments about us even considering this than I have on anything else since I have been on the council. The city attorney, who had already been working on the saggy pants portion of the proposal said he would have the ordinance prepared by the next council meeting, saying that adding womens clothes would take a little more creativity on my part.

A meeting at Woodford County High School Monday evening discussed if the decade-old dress code should be changed, after pictures of a student showing her collarbone went viral.
Maggie Sunseri, a student at Woodford County High, made a documentary about the subject where girls discussed their experience with the dress code.
<SNIP>
The subject got national attention when Stephanie Hughes' mother took pictures of her daughter and posted them on Facebook asking if her outfit was inappropriate.
Her daughter's outfit shows her collarbone, something that violates the current school policy.

(KUTV) A Lone Peak High School student was told her dress must be covered up because it was too inappropriate for the Preference Dance at the school last Saturday.
Gabi Finlayson says she was "embarrassed," when a representative from the school approached her as she entered the dance and told her she needed to wear a shawl or a coat to cover her shoulders.
"She said, 'Would you mind putting on a shawl?' I didn't want to make a big scene so I said, yes. I had a coat in the car so I had to go back and get it," she said.
Finlayson says she was angry after she was forced to wear her winter coat over her dress the entire dance, she says she felt as though the school was shaming her for what some of the boys might think.

(6,785 posts)I grew up in a town like that in Alabama and the only people from my generation that are still there are the people that utterly could not escape.
Everyone else moved as soon as they could. There aren't really any young people in towns like that. By the time you're old enough to vote, you're either addicted to drugs, have 2-3 kids keeping you there, or you're leaving a trail of burned rubber getting the hell out.

Her prayer remains unanswered, that should perhaps indicate to her that The Almighty is unconcerned with her standards.
"It is about respect."
Respect is earned, not legislated.
"I think it gives our younger generation the wrong impression of what is cool.
Nobody will ever think this councilman is in any way the measure of cool.

Her closest friends, the ones she sees regularly, openly agree with her.
"...adding womens clothes would take a little more creativity on my part.
The city attorney knows short skirts have been around since the late '40s, and people like them.
It's time for the voters to clean house of stupid leaders in this "small Alabama town".

So does that mean they are banning fox news in their state. Those women wear dresses
so short that they have to sit like statues to stop people from seeing their crotch.

(1,397 posts)Councilman Goodman obviously doesn't understand the importance of "Daisy Dukes" to Southern women. Every Southern woman has at least one pair of Daisy Dukes -- some of them shouldn't be seen in public but that's another topic.
For you damnyankees, "Daisy Dukes" are very short cut-off jeans named after the lead female character on the old TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard."
Here's Daisy wearing her "Daisy Dukes:"

Generalizations are created over time by first and second parties having similar experiences regarding a third party.
Generalizations often have some truth to them.
Have you ever left a generalized comment on "gun-nuts" or "Republicans" or "conservatives" or "Bible-thumpers" or "lawyers"? Ever?
Society could never function without assumptions and generalizations.
