Union, Tufts Medical Center spar about unionization efforts

A labor union looking to organize employees at Tufts Medical Center has accused the hospital of waging an anti-union campaign, and sent a letter to the hospital on Monday urging an end to the alleged tactics.
In a statement, hospital officials denied any anti-union tactics were taking place, but said they were merely answering questions employees had after the union started leafleting the hospital.
The debate comes months after health care workers union 1199SEIU first started talking to Tufts employees about unionization, following potential merger discussions between Boston Medical Center and Tufts.
Though merger discussions fell apart in April, unionization talks have continued. But according to a letter to Tufts from SEIU, the hospital has become increasingly hostile to union conversations.
