Kevin McCarthy formally announces bid for House speaker
Source: Washington Post
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) sent a letter to his House Republican colleagues Monday formally declaring that he will run to succeed outgoing House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio).

I am running to be your Speaker because I know that the peoples House works best when the leadership you elect listens to members and respects the legislative process entrusted to committees, he wrote.
Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.), who is considered a longshot, is the only other announced contender to succeed Boehner.
