After Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) admitted that Republicans lied about the purpose of the Benghazi investigation, several top Democrats are calling out the House Republicans abuse of power and calling for an immediate end to the investigation.
Rep. McCarthy got flustered during an interview with Sean Hannity and blew the worst kept political secret in Washington. He admitted that the Benghazi investigation is all about digging up mud on Hillary Clinton.
The ranking member of the Select Committee on Benghazi, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) said, This stunning concession from Rep. McCarthy reveals the truth that Republicans never dared admit in public: the core Republican goal in establishing the Benghazi Committee was always to damage Hillary Clintons presidential campaign and never to conduct an even-handed search for the facts. It is shameful that Republicans have used this tragedy and the deaths of our fellow Americans for political gain. Republicans have blatantly abused their authority in Congress by spending more than $4.5 million in taxpayer funds to pay for a political campaign against Hillary Clinton.
The office of Democratic Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, House Republicans were never interested in a bipartisan investigation to improve the security of Americans abroad. Theyve only been interested in pure extremist political theater. Leader McCarthy: the American people dont want more politically-motivated select committees not to smear presidential candidates, and not to assault womens health. They want real leadership to confront the challenges we face as a nation.
Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) called for an immediate end to the Benghazi investigation and for Republicans to apologize to the families of the Benghazi victims,.....................

(45,984 posts)I don't hate Mrs. Clinton, but I don't trust her, either. Maybe you think distrust is hate when it comes to Mrs. Clinton, but I'm not going to argue semantics,
I do not believe, nor have I ever believed, that the Benghazi hearings were anything but the GOP kicking a dead horse. Mrs. Clinton's poll numbers haven't been dropping because of a ginned up scandal that only gets attention from FoxNews viewers, who aren't going to vote for any Democrat because they are convinced that God will smite them if they do.
Speaking only for myself, I'll be as happy to see the Benghazi hearings end as you will be. Unfortunately, House Republicans are ingenious at finding ways to waste time and taxpayer money on phony investigations.
As for the cause of Mrs. Clinton's lower poll numbers, I suggest you examine your candidate.

I don't hate Hillary. I don't like her but I don't hate her and I'm not making shit up to justify my feelings about her. I knew this was bogus from the day it started, and I can't believe our congressmen have allowed this to go on for so long.
There should be repercussions for this, but I have so little faith in our system right now I don't expect anything to happen...or even for it to stop.

Trying to play politics by impeaching Obama, except they couldn't find any cause. All the money they wasted on Obamacare...on and on and on for how long? Sheesh! Police yourselves, Democrats and Republicans.
All that is being revealed today has been pointed out by this group and many others. Wake up! If we can see it, why can't you? Bring back our government and quit playing games.

(25,771 posts)was that they would have to be trying to benefit a specific campaign to get some kind of sanction, but maybe not...certainly unethical.
Frustratedlady
(16,254 posts)The main mistake they made was that she's very familiar with their tactics from when Bill ran for office. Remember when Hillary blew her stack and brought out the fact that the RW was fabricating issues that were false to try to convince the voters that the Clintons were liars and corrupt? It was the early-on feeding of lies and propaganda to the public 24/7 and it was effective, except that Bill could melt the ice off an igloo and was able to pooh-pooh their rhetoric.
This slip of the lip will fester into a major campaign issue and should. Trumpet (no pun intended) it from the rooftops.

(19,537 posts)... for his past criminal acts as a car thief and arsonist amongst other things. Even if the statue of limitations have run out on those issues, to prevent him from being convicted of a crime and put in prison for them, it would at least help Americans more see the truth of who they have running investigations like this in our government to evaluate whether he should continue to do so or even be allowed to be a congressman at all. If they want to continue wasting the tax payer's money on investigating Bengazi crap, then they should know that they are also justifying taxpayer money investigating the criminal acts of those that are responsible for leading this investigation.
Republicans have really screwed up trying to make Benghazi in to an issue that isn't. Instead all they did was obscure the real issue of whether Hillary Clinton had exercised proper judgement in *privatizing* her government email, and the problems associated with doing so, whether or not there were abuses with Benghazi topic emails or not going through it. The Benghazi investigation was just a distraction from looking at it properly for what it was, which was questionable judgement in trying to move emails to a private and less secure infrastructure for unspecified reasons.
