Education Secretary Arne Duncan Stepping Down
Source: CNN
(CNN) Education Secretary Arne Duncan will step down in December, an administration official said Friday.
Duncan is one of the few original members of President Barack Obama's Cabinet who are still in office.
Obama will select Deputy Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. to replace him, and is expected to make the announcement Friday.
Obama is expected to speak at 3:30 PM ET in the State Dining Room.

This Washington Post/Bezos Billionaire Gazette article of today explains more of Duncan's 'work' while secretary especially with Common Core, Charter Schools, etc.

(62,325 posts)forced to apologize, Ed Secs ever. That man is a business man period, he has not a single clue about education and his departure should have occurred years ago, in fact he never should have had that position. The failure of Ed System has only increased, and it was bad before, under his tenure.
Lost generations, we can't really make up for the damage caused by these businessmen injecting themselves as foxes to guard the nice little business they set up, starting with NCLB in our education system.
Cuomo was recently forced to admit the failure of Common Core, but only AFTER supporting it for too long.
I am proud of the parents here in our state of NY who fought it every step of the way. But we shouldn't have to fight our own government in order to get an education worthy of the money being spent, going mainly to BUSINESS.

Aren Dunce'n leavin' DC will give SOME relief to my drinkin' habit. One more "cabinet" member who'd have served us better if he'd just STAYED in his damned cabinet.

And then those business majors became the business leaders that tore our country down.
We need good education with people in charge who have more than their own self-interest in mind.
Education is an altruistic field.
We need generous people to lead our education sector.

(2,412 posts)Looks like the Democratic Party thought they had better do something pretty quick here to court the teachers' votes. Arne has been walking all over teachers and public education for many years now and making teachers angry. Now they are worried about votes.
Maybe Arne can go work for Bill Gates to further destroy public education, or further ruin Chicago Public Schools.

(35,300 posts)Hammers are just tools. Perhaps hard to handle, but still, just a tool. If Duncan had been not doing what his wielder wanted him to do, he'd have been gone a long time ago.
We seem to be at pains to say it's all Duncan's fault.
It's like saying hammers have minds of their own.
