Newt Gingrich On Possibly Becoming Speaker Again: 'I Am Very Prepared'
Source: Talking Points Memo-28 minutes ago
Newt Gingrich, who ruled over the House as speaker in the 1990s, is open to the possibility of returning to his former post. In a Tuesday radio interview on Fox News Radio, Gingrich and his wife Callista said that both of them support his return to the speakership if they are called to duty in any way.
I am very prepared, Gingrich said. I have been talking with a number of members individually, I am very prepared to help the House Republicans think through what they are doing.
As TPM reported, Gingrich first hinted he'd be open to resuming the speakership on Thursday after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) abruptly dropped out of the race. In an interview with conservative radio host Sean Hannity, Gingrich said, "This is why George Washington came out of retirement because there are moments you can't avoid."
There is currently no frontrunner in the contest to replace John Boehner (R-OH) as speaker. Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Daniel Webster (R-FL) are both running, and many have pressured former vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to make a bid for the job

(8,352 posts)The 1990's were bad enough. I don't think I could tolerate the possibility of another Clinton presidency and Gingrich at the helm of the House again!!

There are 525 members and we have to bring back the corrupt Gingrich. Good grief. Besides, he's a naive to believe the Oligarchs want a Speaker chosen anymore than they want a budget passed, or for certain parts of the federal government to exist. It's fairly likely we won't have a Speaker for a few years as the Oligarchs continue to delegitimize Congressional power. To what end, I don't think people are ready to hear. How's that for dark? lol

(6,398 posts)If that doesn't show how messed up things are in the GOP that the party in power in Congress needs to go to the outside for leadership due to their "civil war"....I don't know what will.

(9,214 posts)I mean this would be a low pressure job what with there being no expectations for success. I would get to belittle most if not all of the Republican house members, so what could be a down side to this job? A three day work week, free food, free housing, free travel, all the money you could ever hope for under the table from the lobbyists. Let the majority whip do all the bull work, I don't know why people aren't breaking down the door applying for the job.

(3,426 posts)Yes Gingrich, as you know he was a very broken politician , and as a privet citizen broken even worse. Actually I felt sorry for him and I felt I had to help him through his period of self doubt. When he became a privet citizen after having resigned from congress ,I found it hard to believe anyone could be in that bad off. The realization he was no longer part of the gang really hit him hard.
So I decided to help him out of his depression. I drilled it into him that I The Donald am a firm believer in second chances. Of course my word is gold although it wasn't served up to Newt on a silver platter. He did except my gift of golden words and it helped him find his way into the cure, Donald's Cure All, haven't found the right market for the stuff yet but eventually it will be available.
And there is a problem with the stuff, in Gingrich's case ,it all went to his head. He thinks he can save the republican congress ,only he can. He believes he is the cure for this seemingly incurable sickness that controls the republican party.
It's wish fulfillment folks, and Gingrich is chasing a very twisted dream.
He understood all along that he cannot turn back the clock and make right all his wrongs, so he figures the clock came back around to him. So it was the clock that saved him. Hows that for gratitude ?
And I'll tell you something else, he's terrible at golf. !
