Hillary Clinton Sharpens Her Barbs Against Bernie Sanders
Source: Time
Hillary Clinton sharpened her attacks against Bernie Sanders Friday as her campaign gains confidence, criticizing his gun control record and subtly accusing him of making a sexist remark in the recent debate. During a sunny campaign event in Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday, Clinton apparently referred to a moment in the Democratic debate when Sanders said that all the shouting in the world will not improve gun laws.
Ive been told to stop shouting about guns, Clinton said to cheers. Actually I havent been shouting, but sometimes when a woman talks, some people think its shouting!
She used the same line earlier in the day at the Democratic National Committees Womens Leadership Forum. Friday was the first time Clinton has implied Sanders showed sexism in the Democratic debate by remonstrating Clinton for raising her voice. (Sanders also said in the debate in response to former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley that we can raise our voices.)
...
Gun control is one of the few issues where Clinton is further to the left than Sanders, and it is an issue she believes will help her win over the Democratic base. One of her strongest moments during the debate last week came when host Anderson Cooper asked Clinton whether Sanders is strong enough of on gun control. No, Clinton said in the debate, not at all.

(4,802 posts)Bernie has not played dirty with her. She will only anger allies she will need in the future. Vermont and Oregon are big hunting states. A politician need reflect their voters views. Bernie is no gun nut and hillary knows that. Should Clinton get into negative campaigning , she has far more negative votes, she'd prefer not being discussed , than does Bernie. Don't make it negative , it will only hurt herself.

I remember seeing her and McCain together on TV at some kind of speaking engagement (I don't remember exactly what it was) and McCain made some joke involving Obama's "Hope and Change" slogan. He said something along the lines of "If you elect Obama you'll hope you have some change left in your pocket" and Hilary doubled over laughing while clapping her hands together. Something just turned over in me at that point.

Who ever is the democratic nominee will be the next president but Bernie leads a movement to pressure congress for results. Republicans always demonize any democratic president...but they truly are the demons. Every Republican president since Eisenhower became president through treason or fraud...FOIA now shows this to be true through the release of information.

You really want John Bolton taking a chainsaw to the top five stories of the UN. In the end, Bernie sees the forest from the trees. He'll back Clinton as the better choice to fight Citizen's United.

(54 posts)And I don't just mean her attitude toward Mr. Sanders. She has a general negativity that shows up in all her speeches. This is, above all, what makes her seem "unlikeable." Bill Clinton once enlisted Steven Spielberg to get some dialog coaches to work with her on this, but she gave up. She said she wanted to be herself. So this is what you get.

stir up shit using words like "implied". That is NOT journalism. Either she did it, or she didn't
One thing she did NOT do, and that is accuse Bernie of being "sexist", that is the fucked up media making up bullshit..
They got it wrong with Biden running. They got it wrong with Romney winning. They got it wrong with Gabby Gifford being killed. They got it wrong with WMDs in Iraq, and I am just highlighting just a couple of obvious things. Their record is pretty dismal. Unfortunately Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace, Edward R. Murrow, are gone, and we are far poorer because of it.

And BTW, a lot of people have been shouting, so he was not referring to "Hillary" specifically when he said that. He was referring to everyone, male or female, when he said that, but she turned it into a sexist slam against herself.
Without a link to some other comment she was referring to, you've got nothing to defend her with.

(54 posts)Feminism is good and powerful movement. But Mr. Sanders does not deserve to be attacked as a "sexist." Of course Mrs. Clinton did not use the exact word, "sexist." But her remark that "Some people think that a woman is shouting when she talks" is clearly innuendo against him, because of his past comment about how she was raising her voice.
Mr. Sanders seems to be a gentleman. I don't think he likes anyone to raise his or her voice at him. So to suggest that he is a "sexist" for saying what he said is somewhat unjust.

And this barb included everything in Clinton's bag of schtick. "I'm the ultimate outsider because of my sex" and "Whoa is me for facing such sexist discrimination" while going straight for the jugular.

(92,394 posts)statement from the debate. ok, I'm naive sometimes that way.
One thing though I don't see this as an example of Hillary calling Bernie sexist. That I think is a stretch.
I also think it was a very small part of the speech.
At least based on the Va. rally, I agree my view was wrong, it was a slam at Bernie. I \don't consider it particularly harsh. I also don't consider Bernie's statement that Obama has been a weak president as particularly harsh. I don't agree with it, but it is a legitimate point for discussion, and brings to the forefront the question that Joe Biden brought up. How much should we reach out to the republicans?

(22,000 posts)This must be some kind delayed outrage. The debate took place on the 13th of October and she waits 10 days to start spouting how sexist Sanders is. I suppose she also has forgotten that Sanders defended her about the email investigation. How convenient!

Bernie is strong on woman's rights and is very much pro-choice.
are you suggesting you have to be a woman to support reproductive rights
frizzled
(509 posts)But yes, of COURSE a female candidate will be better to defend women's reproductive rights. It's a womens' issue. That doesn't mean some women aren't anti-abortion, but men simply can't speak with authority on what it means to women to have their legal rights to their own bodies and fates attacked.
The Republicans are waging war against women and have made abortion more or less impossible in many parts of the country. That Democrats aren't fighting back is outrageous.

(54 posts)Hillary has never accomplished anything in her life. Her thin-soup corporate-friendly healthcare proposal in the 1990s was a failure. She was a failure as a Senator. She and her busy staff introduced over 300 pieces of legislation, and only two of them passed--both on trivial matters. As Secretary of State, the only important initiative she took was to attack Libya, with disastrous consequences. And her decision to use a private server for both State Department business and her own Clinton Foundation business with foreign companies and governments was simply idiotic, given her ambition to run for President in 2016. Now she has to run a campaign while being investigated by the FBI.
No, I don't think she is good at what she does.

Sanders wants sensible gun laws. He doesn't think gun manufacturers should be responsible for crimes committed with their guns. I have to say, I must agree here.
