OnStar Kill Switch Ends Pursuit in Riverside County After Corvette Stolen From Culver City Dealershi

Source: KTLA

The on board navigation system OnStar activated a kill switch ending the pursuit of a Chevy Corvette in Riverside County after it was allegedly stolen from a dealership in Culver City on Monday night, police said.

The incident began around 9 p.m. when a man allegedly took a brand new white Corvette off the Bunnin Chevrolet lot, which is located at 6101 W. Slauson Avenue, according to Sgt. Luis Martinez of the Culver City Police Department. It was not immediately known how he got the keys to the vehicle.

About 2 hours later, and after officers lost track of the Corvette, the vehicle was located in Riverside County with the help of OnStar, according to Martinez.

The California Highway Patrol arrested the man without incident after OnStar deployed the kill switch, which stopped the car, the lieutenant said.

Both our cars have OnStar. When I had my accident on Christmas Day a few years ago, the automatic response kicked in and sent help. A drunk driver forgot he was on a 1 way street and turned in front of me. I t-boned his car. At first I thought it was a hit and run. He drove a block away before pulling over. I didn't know and the cop couldn't prove the drunk driver switched places with a sober friend.

With all kinds of stops in between.

It's been a life saver in getting to know the area where I now live in NH.
