Unions, Liberal Groups Revolt Against Obama’s Pacific Trade Deal

Source: Washington Times

By Dave Boyer - The Washington Times - Thursday, November 5, 2015

Key elements of the Democratic Party base revolted Thursday against President Obama’s massive free-trade deal in the Asia Pacific, vowing to defeat the pact and punish lawmakers who vote for it.

A coalition of labor, environmental, consumer, gay rights and human rights groups reacted angrily to the administration’s release of the fine print of the Trans Pacific Partnership, saying the details of the pact are worse than they feared.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said the nation’s biggest labor group “will join with our allies to defeat the TPP.”

Democracy for America, a grassroots progressive group, said lawmakers should oppose the agreement “if they want to keep their jobs.”

She's "fighting to stop it" dontcha know, because just the other day she said “As of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it".

but I would guess they are hedging (because they also mention Trump as being against it).
One would think, though, that if they were so against it, they would be supporting someone who is actively trying to stop it now, and who has always been against it (rather than calling it a "gold standard in trade agreements&quot

I was referring to Hillary's new found opposition to the TPP, which by most indications she has supported until very recently, even touting it as th "gold standard".

So is she now hedging or triangulating or both, because based on the Clinton's historical championing of major trade deals, I just can't swallow that she is really against the TPP.

I would say it's more "pandering" than anything.
Or perhaps "covering all her bases" with her mealy-mouthed responses, which can always be followed by a "but..." should the need arise.

steal everything we have. Most wealth is zero sum, the more the 1% accumulates, the less the 99% has. HRC's answer to some social justice issues have the 99% footing the bill and not her friends.

endorse Hillary who, despite her protestations to the contrary, is a fan of TPP and has said so on at least 45 different traceable occasions.

Unions are still standing in defense of American workers.

Do you know the TPP says that trading in products made by forced or slave labor is discouraged. Isn't that great. No policy or section of the TPP has any repercussions for using forced or slave labor. But it does say uselessly and with absolutely no force of law that using forced or slave labor is discouraged. How quaint.

The best hope is that the other countries will vote it down. Our Congress is bought and paid for and will pass it to satisfy their benefactors.

Then all of the candidates will have the proper platform to outline their views on the TPP. I will be very interested to hear where HRC stands on the issue now that it is in the public domain.
