UAW, Ford reach tentative labor agreement

They also give pay increases to longtime workers for the first time in a decade.

The UAW will release official results of voting by this weekend. Lordstown Mayor Arno Hill says the benefit to the village will be substantial over the life of the new contract.

Under UAW rules, the union leadership could declare the deal ratified since 55% of the overall workforce voted for it. That happened at Chrysler in 2011.

UAW leaders will hold meetings with the skilled workers this coming week before deciding on the next step. But it can not change parts of the agreement that are “common to all members”, the union statement said. Production workers have backed the agreement, but most skilled tradespeople have not.
