Western University investigating "White Student Union" Facebook page

Source: CTV News

Published Sunday, November 22, 2015 2:47PM EST

Staff at Western University are looking into a Facebook page that was created over the weekend dubbed, "Western White Student Union."

An unknown administrator of the page posted the following statement Saturday:

"We welcome students who wish to construct a white identity, as well as all other students, to follow and contribute to the Western White Student Union. This mission statement has been inspired by the one set up by our sister group at the UCLA White Student Union.

An interview with administrators of the Facebook page was requested by CTV London, but was declined.

My brother went to school there in the late 1980's and I'm sad to say that he hung out with an earlier generation of that crowd. Needless to say we don't speak much.

They plainly say "respectful of other identities that whites and nonwhites alike espouse" "we do not wish to denigrate or harm any other group or ethnicity."
There is no mention of white supremacy or any insulting language. Read their entire statement.
Is there a "Black Student Union"? if so, then there is no difference.
I guess its OK to be proud of who you are, as long as you're not white?

People of color are the oppressed, white people are the oppressors.

White supremacy permeates society, and denying this perpetuates it.

Due to this power imbalance white pride and black pride cannot be considered remotely the same thing.

Im white and i have no power to supress anyone. As long as this group has no white supremacy beliefs i have no problem with it. Remember diversity includes everyone

"People of color are the oppressed, white people are the oppressors."

I'm not up on the current lingo, but isn't there an, um, intersectionality of oppressions?

"White supremacy" does NOT permeate society. Thats a huge load of crap. So many millions of people are in areas controlled by black administrations. And so many people who come here from other countries seem to succeed without being hindered by this "supremacy". Maybe because since they havent been told its here, they succeed because they believe they can.
