Cleveland Vigil Marks Killing of Tamir Rice in 2014

Source: NY Times-AP

CLEVELAND — Members of the family of a 12-year-old black boy who was carrying a pellet gun when he was shot by a white police officer gathered Sunday for a vigil here to mark the anniversary of the fatal encounter.

People prayed and observed a moment of silence at the Cudell Recreation Center area where the boy, Tamir Rice, was shot. Twelve doves, one for each year of his life, were released, organizers said.

The vigil was among several events in Cleveland and in other cities marking the shooting, which happened on Nov. 22, 2014. Tamir died the next day. About 60 people, including his mother and sister, also took part in a commemoration on Saturday at the recreation center.

A grand jury is hearing testimony to determine whether criminal charges should be filed against the rookie patrolman who shot Tamir, Timothy Loehmann, and Officer’s Loehmann’s training officer. The Cuyahoga County prosecutor, Timothy J. McGinty, has said he has not reached any conclusions about charges.

The prosecutor has been fast and loose with releasing the "expert" witness reports that support what the officers did!

If the officers are indicted, and that's a pretty big IF, they'll never be found guilty!

the family millions of dollars, this will do far more than a guilty verdict of the cops will do, which wont happen anyway probably.

I keep mentioning civil suits in these cases for a reason.

The reason is if the teaparty gets their way, or the way of the Koch bros who owns their movement, there will be no civil lawsuits anymore unless they are big business suing you and me.

The reform these fascist Koch Bros want would all but eliminate any reason for a police dept to care whether they shoot innocents or not.

A lawyer would be better able to tell us what laws having to do with this are able to be changed to get this result, tort reform is the first and most obvious.

Every time the Cleveland.com website publishes a story regarding this subject, you couldn't sneeze without hitting at least 14 racist creeps justifying a drive-by Second Amendmenting by non-trained cops of a 12 year old playing in an empty park, going so far to blame Tamir for his own death and inventing scenarios that he pulled his pellet gun on Tim Loehmann despite the video clearly showing Tamir did nothing of the sort. The security footage shows that nothing at all warranted Tamir to be gunned down in 1.5 seconds like he was. NOTHING.
