Trump Campaign Restricts Reporters Covering What Happens Off Stage

NEW YORK -- Donald Trump's campaign severely restricted journalists' movements Tuesday night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, by keeping them in a press pen -- even apparently after the event ended -- and requiring them to have an escort when going to the bathroom.
NBC News reporter Katy Tur tweeted that members of the media were told they couldn't leave the designated press area, often described as a pen, "while Trump is in the room." She added that this restriction is "now official policy that the secret service is enforcing."
The Secret Service began providing Trump and fellow Republican candidate Dr. Ben Carson with protection earlier this month at their request and following approval from the Department of Homeland Security. No other candidates have such protection, except Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, who as a former first lady has Secret Service protection for life.
But the Trump campaign has been particularly aggressive in calling on the Secret Service -- or citing the agency's concerns -- to enforce press restrictions. Last week, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski threatened to "blacklist" CNN reporter Noah Gray for leaving the pen to cover a protester at a Massachusetts rally. Though the Trump campaign claimed it reacted in response to Secret Service concerns about reporters moving into the crowd, an agent told Gray that wasn't the case. ....................

It seems who enforces the rules has become an issue also.
........."It is not a function of the Secret Service to prevent or limit the press from conducting interviews at events attended by our protectees," he said. The spokesman continued:............

(45,021 posts)As they say freedom ain't free.
Is the press just going to let republican fascist jerks
like Trump tell them what they can write about? !

(1,937 posts)yes, they are(as a majority) just going to let him dictate what they may and may not write about
Not saying there aren't a few good apples left in the barrel, there are, but they are getting low in stock.

(1,937 posts)you're thinking of Schutzstaffel previously Saal-Schuts or possibly SA
however considering the start of THOSE SS's
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schutzstaffel
The Schutzstaffel (SS; also stylized as Runic "ᛋᛋ" with Armanen runes; German pronunciation: [ˈʃʊtsˌʃtafəl] ( listen); literally "Protection Squadron" was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP; Nazi Party). It began with a small guard unit known as the Saal-Schutz ("Hall-Protection" made up of NSDAP volunteers to provide security for Nazi Party meetings in Munich.
He's already got Saal-Schutz (as proven by 'rough him up' incident)
question is, is Secret Service there to protect journalists, people attending, protesters or him or all?
At this point When it comes to Trump, G's law is out the window anyway.

(1,274 posts)Gorham, New Hampshire (CNN)Hillary Clinton's campaign used a rope to keep journalists away from the candidate on Saturday while she walked in this small town's July Fourth parade.
I am not aware of Bernie Sanders keeping reporters at bay.
[font size = 4]That is why Bernie is the superior candidate.

(2,805 posts)Every news channel should refuse all these negotiations. You say something it gets covered. It is all about the Sunday shows that these guys can demand that they get the coverage they want. You notice that most Democrats don't acquiesce and therefore agree to only talk about certain things and thus get no coverage.
Rachel Maddow makes out fine by talking about the issues, while she never gets any politicians to agree to come on her show because they are afraid of the questions she might ask. If every station refused free air time and demanded some answers on politicians "stands" then we would have a real debate. Hasn't been that way for at least 15 years but the politicians should not be able to demand what questions they are asked. It should be the "journalists" that demand that if the politicians want airtime they must answer the questions.
Donald Trump demands something, broadcast journalists say, "Who is Donald Trump?". Go find someone else who is going to hide the truth from our viewers for a quick ratings jump, we have integrity.
Good luck with that but if at least the 6:00 news bureau of the major networks would do it once a day perhaps that would be covered too. But since all their news gathering dollars have been cut they just give a few headlines and then tell us Justin Bieber got mad at a concert (well worth 5% of their 22 minute airtime) since every fan of him has already seen that 36 hours ago.
Seems every actual news gathering story about the U.S. comes from The Guardian. Sad, but I am grateful for their diligent work. Wish we had some of those journalists.

(1,858 posts)I'm waiting for a Romney type '47'%' secretly recorded moment, but I think it will be much worse. Hell, what's hes said in public is bad enough. I think his psychopathy goes even deeper than what he has shown.

Instead of the press, the FBI needs to send it's Hate Crime Task Force to monitor his rallies.
