Jeb Bush says he would support Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton

Jeb Bush would support Donald Trump if the real estate billionaire were to win the Republican presidential nomination, because anybody is better than Hillary Clinton.
The former Florida governor thinks that outcome unlikely, however, because the more voters hear of Trump, particularly on foreign policy, the less likely hes going to get the Republican nomination".

Why would anyone think it necessary to ask such a question?

I hope his aspirations to the presidency are squashed as early as possible on the primary calendar.

(11,843 posts)And since the are damn few supporters of Jebby, this really doesn't matter. No candidate is going to cheer getting the pitiful few backers of the Bush spawn.

(7,300 posts)of why Sen. Sanders does better in the GE than Sec. Clinton. The GOP voter would rather vote for anyone, including Sen. Sanders, besides Sec. Clinton while Independents, disillusioned/cynical voters and millennials favor Sanders. There simply not enough hedge fund managers or Wall St titans to counter that in the voting booth.

(11,990 posts)a whole article about it at

Also, besides the things mentioned there, many on the right share these positions:
against NAFTA/TPP
against Patriot Act, warrantless wiretapping, etc.
against IWR (at least in hindsight)
they like their social security, and don't want to see it cut/privatized
they have kids who can't afford college
they are no particular fans of banks and wall street
Also, assuming that the Republicans ultimately put up a more "traditional" candidate like Rubio or Bush, there is a large group of anti-establishment Trump/Carson/Fiorina Republicans who may be up for grabs... they wouldn't be Hillary voters, that's another establishment candidate, but Sanders may motivate them to not stay home.

(1,024 posts)In doing so, he showed respect toward young conservatives and earned some of their respect in return.
So, yes, given the choice between staying home, or voting for Sanders, or voting for Trump, I believe that hundreds of thousands of young conservatives would vote for Sanders.
Not a large percentage of them, of course. But hundreds of thousands of them.

(14,578 posts)Because if Trump actually is elected, the US will move quickly toward fascism and war. The Bush dynasty has ALWAYS profited from war.
Here's an excerpt from an earlier DU post about Samuel Prescott Bush, Jeb!'s great grandfather:
In the spring of 1918, Bush became chief of the Ordnance, Small Arms and Ammunition Section of the War Industries Board of Bernard Baruch and Clarence Dillon, with national responsibility for government assistance to and relations with Remington and other weapons companies. Bush was essentially taking national responsibility for government assistance to his own Remington Arms Company and other weapon makers. Through these weapons manufacturers, Samuel Bush made and sold arms to 75% of the WWI combatants on both sides.
Senate hearings in 1934 by the Nye committee attacked the Merchants of Deathwar profiteers such as Remington Arms and the British Vickers companywhose salesmen had manipulated many nations into war and then supplied weapons to all sides.
Unfortunately most of the records and correspondence of Bush's arms-related section of the government have been burned to save space in the National Archives.
Tarpley and Chaitkin say:
"With the war mobilization conducted under the supervision of the War Industries Board, U.S. consumers and taxpayers showered unprecedented fortunes on war producers and certain holders of raw materials and patents. Hearings in 1934 by the committee of U.S. Senator Gerald Nye attacked the "Merchants of Death", war profiteers such as Remington Arms and the British Vickers company, whose salesmen had manipulated many nations into wars, and then supplied all sides with the weapons to fight them. Most of the records and correspondence of Samuel Bush's arms- related section of the government have been burned, "to save space" in the National Archives. This matter of destroyed or misplaced records should be of concern to citizens of a constitutional republic. Unfortunately, it is a rather constant impediment with regard to researching George Bush's background: He is certainly the most "covert" American chief executive."
Samuel Bush was labeled a "Merchant of Death" in the years following the Great War as investigations began into the instigators of the war and of the new emerging world militarism. The German Army under the Kaiser was the largest and most well armed in the world in 1914, and they were largely armed by Samuel Bush. After WWI, Germany was stripped of their arms, but Samuel Bush was allowed to keep his millions, and his arms business was allowed to grow and prosper. In 1944 he was awarded a huge government contract to make armor casings for WWII. He died shortly after the war ended in 1948, within months of the passage of the National Security Act.
Merchants of death will LOVE Trump!

(18,791 posts)The hate towards her is very, very deep...right now, because we are early on, it's just at a simmer...but if and when she makes a larger presence in front of cameras (where the hell is she now? She's virtually invisible!) that simmer will move to a BOIL.
My neighbors...and a lot of co-workers cannot stand her.
The impotent media and the Entrenched Establishment Crowd, the DNC and DWS...will all have been behind us losing the White House to some freak like Rump.
Mark my words.

(930 posts)The fact that mainstream media doesn't have the temerity or (more likely) willingness to call
out this seditious family does not speak well for our country. But this goes way back, of course.
The newest manifestation is T.Rump: No reminders that he is not remotely qualified to be president (just like Palin, who
would've been a heartbeat away).
Rick Perry was under federal indictment before he dropped out of the race. No problem, Ricky; you're welcome under
our tent.

(46,130 posts)But Trump?
Trump is ready to go rogue/third party/independent if he isn't annointed the republican nominee, and that includes Bush. Bush would be delusional if he thinks there's a place for him in the Cabinet of "President Trump".
If Bush had to insult HRC, (and he had to . . . ), there was a variety of other ways to do so. But to support Trump is beyond sarcasm and hyperbole. It's stupidity and absolutely no care for this country.

(18,652 posts)without making a mess of things. BTW in the Grimm story Rumplestiltskin, the magic imp renegs on his promise to the queen when she reveals his name. Which is what Trumple will do. No way he can deport 12 million immigrants, for example.
