Updated - Authorities identify couple who killed 14 at San Bernardino holiday party

Source: LATimes

Dressed in black masks and tactical gear, armed with long guns and pistols, they entered a holiday party for county health workers in San Bernardino as it was in full swing. Before they fled, they had killed 14 people and wounded 17 others.

Four hours later, as fearful residents were ordered to stay home and scores of officers swarmed the streets, authorities chased a black SUV carrying two suspects from a home in the nearby city of Redlands. As TV news stations broadcast live overhead, the chase spilled back onto San Bernardino's streets, where authorities and the suspects traded gunfire.

When it was over, a man and woman connected to the assault were dead. One body lay in the street, blood pooling. Another was recovered from the vehicle. A police officer also was wounded in the firefight but is expected to survive.

Late Wednesday night, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan identified the people killed in the gun battle with police as Syed Rizwan Farook, a 28-year-old American citizen, and 27-year-old Tashfeen Malik. Police did not know where Malik was born or where she had lived.

Burquan said police are "reasonably confident" Farook and Malik, who may have been married or engaged, were the same two people who opened fire at the holiday party Wednesday morning.

By morning more will be known, many things people learned yesterday has changed so the facts are coming in fast. What I have seen is Professorial Procedures under heavy pressure with unknown variables changing very quickly.

It will be a horrible night for the people involved especially the challenged the challenged parents and care givers, so bow your rather then raising your temper and promoting more guns!

Still not enough to drive a little control on weapons of mass killing.

Still not enough to drive even a discussion on weapons of mass killing.

Wonder how many of them want that race war anyway. I've seen a lot of them calling for one since Dylan Roof.

6 month old child is making this sound more and more fishy. I hope they provide a lot more info because I'm starting to need to be convinced they did it. Islamo fear helps a lot of people - trump and bush's campaigns as well as keeps wars and bombs going and the defense companies rich. It even helps justify mass surveliance and patriot acts.

marriages that do not allow a lot of choice for women. Not saying that this is the case. Just reminding people that this woman may not have had a lot to say about what they were doing.

Police said at a press conference on the night of December 2 that they are unsure if Farook and Malik were married or just engaged. However an earlier report from the Los Angeles Times said that Farook had married in the past six months. The Times said Farook had recently traveled to Saudi Arabia and came back to the U.S. with a wife that he had met online.

Maybe Obama should release the 28 pages from the 911 report that indicate Saudi involvement in that attack.

“There’s nothing in it about national security,” Walter Jones, a Republican congressman from North Carolina who has read the missing pages, contends. “It’s about the Bush Administration and its relationship with the Saudis.” Stephen Lynch, a Massachusetts Democrat, told me that the document is “stunning in its clarity,” and that it offers direct evidence of complicity on the part of certain Saudi individuals and entities in Al Qaeda’s attack on America. “Those twenty-eight pages tell a story that has been completely removed from the 9/11 Report,” Lynch maintains. Another congressman who has read the document said that the evidence of Saudi government support for the 9/11 hijacking is “very disturbing,” and that “the real question is whether it was sanctioned at the royal-family level or beneath that, and whether these leads were followed through.” Now, in a rare example of bipartisanship, Jones and Lynch have co-sponsored a resolution requesting that the Obama Administration declassify the pages.

And for someone to shoot at co-workers like that is just very strange to me unless there was either some friction at work or he really was such a religious fanatic that he cared about no one but himself.

I have worked in San Bernardino on occasion. I would have expected some sort of right-wing attack but not this kind of an attack. It was clearly well planned. Farook's online communications with his wife or fiancee wills surely be subpoenaed and reviewed very carefully. Because their may be accomplices in the US or overseas who need to be held responsible.

It could be terrorism or it could be anger about a conflict at work. More information will clarify this. Certainly, if it was terrorism, then non-Muslims will be very careful in dealing with anyone who might possibly be Muslim, and that is understandable.

I heard on CBS that Farook was born in Chicago.

living with them. Maybe she was just the driver. Still, for both of them to do this makes it even more unplausible. They don't sound like a typical shooters or typical terrorists. A work place is not usually a political agenda spot to hit. How he got others engaged in shooting up his co-workers doesn't sound right. This sounds fishy as heck.
