(34,845 posts)Is this merely a clash of hemispheres or something more? I know it's dangerous to try and dehumanize any group of people but still I wonder...is this what it was like when Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens co-existed, simply updated for the modern era?

(35,309 posts)It faded when "our girls" were kidnapped a year or two ago, but it was around for a decade before that.
It's tribal. Or ethnic, if "tribal" carries too many racial overtones.
It's agrarian versus urban.
It's pastoralist vs farming.
It's north vs south.
It's class and income related, government-services related.
It's language related.
Or it's because the nasty Xians in the south don't adequately share power, so what other recourse do the oppressed have against their oppressors?
Of course, when "our girls" were kidnapped and were a media hit (only to recede into the landscape when quick messiahship wasn't forthcoming for the great white west) all of these excuses vanished into the landscape themselves. Now it's hard to go back to the former spin, having accepted that the Islamist claptrap that BH spouted all along and which was studiously ignored by many in the West really is their goal and intent, but it's hard to accept the Islamist claptrap as reflecting Islam or any part or branch of Islam. That means rejecting large chunks of Islamic history, to be sure, but having ignore so much of the present ignoring the inconvenient bits of the past is a piece of cake.
