Liberty University president urges students to be armed

Source: CNN

At a time when most college campuses prohibit guns, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. thinks the opposite should be the case -- urging his school's students to be armed, especially in light of this week's massacre in San Bernardino, California.

"I always thought that if more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walk in and kill," he said.

Those comments from Falwell -- a son of the late evangelist, conservative political activist and Liberty University founder -- spurred vigorous applause from thousands of students gathered Friday night for Liberty's weekly convocation. In a phone interview Saturday with CNN, Falwell said he wasn't talking about all Muslims, just those who perpetrate attacks.

College Final Exam:

You are walking down the hallway of a college building when you hear shots. Suddenly an armed person runs into the hall in front of you.

1) What is the likelihood that this is the gunman?

2) What is the likelihood that this is is a student who thinks you're the gunman?

What a complete jerk, why isn't he complaining about the crises in this country, and instead of telling students and "god' knows who else to get a gun

I'm sure Mr. Falwell champions diversity on his campus.

What a nut job, but then again, the apple (or nut) doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Of the traditional students, only the oldest half of the senior class would be eligible since you need to be 21 in most places.

Concealed carry is more about the staff and faculty.

Schedule a campus visit during the height of campus visiting season, grab your rifle, add a pair of video glasses. Would make for a great Youtube.

She graduated with her PhD. recently and many universities won't hire without some experience in their field. She and I both have experience teaching ESL, but that doesn't mean squat. I graduated with a DBA and am in the same situation. We have to have experience and publishing in our fields. Fortunately, we both now have a paper published. In a way she is lucky to have the opportunity to do that even if she has to put up with the loons.

He's had plenty of time to weigh words and select the ones that suggest an awareness of the complexity of opposition to the Western governments.

But that passage sounds ominous at best and genocidal otherwise.

Words have consequences. Words have meaning. Words have the power to cause a LOT of damage.

This kind of talk is something we don't need right now, unless you're just itching for another Crusade, which seems to be exactly what Falwell and his ilk want.

My alma mater (Sweet Briar College) is 15 miles down the road. I can't imagine a call for the students to arm themselves.

I wouldn't feel comfortable in Lynchburg with all the Liberty students with concealed weapons. Fortunately, the University warns them to stay on campus and not to go out that much.

they actually have on campus anyway? They have a lot of remote students that are older, but actual on campus students?

Those under 21 should lobby to change the policy on open carry. No reason that they shouldn't feel safe as well.

Why focus on on-campus arming of students?

Provide extensive weaponry for your student enrollment and dispatch them to the Middle East, where they're far more likely to encounter terrorist organizations.

And since you have expressly stated you want to "end Muslims," why don't you go with them?

As far as I'm concerned, you can leave right away.
