Gun rights groups plan mock mass shooting at University of Texas one week after 14 killed in San Be

Source: NY Daily News

In the wake of two terror attacks, two gun rights groups in Texas have decided now is a good time for a mock mass shooting.

Come and Take It Texas and DontComply.com are planning the emphatic demonstration on the campus of University of Texas in Austin on Saturday.

The groups will "take to the streets armed with rifles and pistols on display followed by a crisis performance," according to a press release posted on Facebook.

Fake blood will be used, the groups' spokesperson Matthew Short told the Statesman.

Wasn't it at the University of Texas where Charles Whitman holed himself up in the clock tower and shot and killed numerous individuals back in the late '60's or early '70's?

On edit it was 1966

4:10 p.m. update: A University of Texas spokesman says the planned mock mass shooting demonstration this weekend would be considered criminal trespass if participants do not leave when asked.

“Within the university community, the campus is a place for the vigorous exchange of diverse viewpoints, which is an essential part of the educational experience,” said spokesman J.B. Bird. “The property or buildings owned or controlled by UT Austin are not, however, open to outside groups for assembly, speech, or other activities, including theatrical performances, as are the public streets, sidewalks, and parks. Only the university itself, faculty, staff and student groups may engage in such activities on campus. This applies equally to an outside protest group, an outside theater troupe, or any outside group wishing to use the facilities or grounds of the university.”

a mass shooting. Damn cowboys would kill even more people, not to mention incite more mass shootings. They ought to round those yahoos up and corral them on Cliven Bundy's ranch so they can join a militia.

Play-acting & pretend machismo trivializes the real pain, suffering & loss of real people and their families.

A parade to piss on the victim's graves wouldn't be any less offensive.

I think they just proved they are brain-dead idiots. And do we really want people who are brain-dead idiots walking around with real guns and live ammunition?

This is one of the most insane stunts I've ever heard of. I'm glad the Uni is shutting them down. I wonder if they will try to pick a different venue.
