Donald Trump Brings Up Ted Cruz's Cuban Ancestry At Rally
Source: Business Insider-9 hours ago
Real-estate mogul Donald Trump contrasted his own "evangelical" beliefs with US Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) religious beliefs at a Friday-night campaign rally. "I am an evangelical. I'm a Christian. I'm a Presbyterian," Trump said, speaking in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Republican presidential front-runner then highlighted the fact that Cruz's father is Cuban.
"We're doing really well with the evangelicals," he continued. "And by the way, and again, I do like Ted Cruz, but not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba, in all fairness. It's true. Not a lot come out. But I like him nevertheless."
Trump's comments about Cruz's religion were somewhat similar to what he said about presidential rival Ben Carson's own Seventh-day Adventist faith earlier this year, when Carson was challenging Trump in Iowa polls.
"I love Iowa. And look, I don't have to say it: I'm Presbyterian. Can you believe it?" Trump said then at a rally while discussing Carson's Iowa poll numbers. "I'm Presbyterian. Boy, that's down the middle of the road, folks, in all fairness. I mean, Seventh-day Adventist, I don't know about. I just don't know about."

(4,220 posts)Clearly, Ted Cruz is equally horrible and actually more dangerous than Trump. But Trump is just a real scumbag, breathtakingly so...

(553 posts)This Dump keeps shitting on the Constitution while relying on it to back him up. True about Cruz...or as they will be saying about Rafael Jr., "Show us the birth certificate (Canadian fellow)".
The danger of Dump is that his auditory style is EXACTLY how most AmeriKKKans speak. Irrelevant topics and associations, false smarminess and "volks"-warmth, distraction after distraction, disavowal of the insults he throws, false equivalency ("I'm Presbyterian. Boy, that's down the middle of the road, folks, in all fairness." , pandering to the audience. This carnival side-show barker is lulling the rubes into their own destruction and the Rubes just eat it up. Saw a photo of Dump with his supporters (the unpaid ones), he was wearing his red baseball cap with his suit, like some kind of visual expression of AmeriKKKa reduced to the 2 things that keep it stupid, namely, sports and business. Dump sells himself as a man of the people and his sheeple lap it up. This is ample proof that the education system in America has failed to produce aware adults...but then again we can just blame the teachers,, right? "I don't know about. I just don't know about."
AmeriKKKa is rising, and America is sinking. Unless you ALL get out the vote, the fearful reactionaries will steal the election and the nation will slide headlong into a stinking hot pile of "greatness", just like Germany, except there won't be any countries around to bail you out.

(49,047 posts)The more Trump gets away with outrage, the bolder he gets and the more his real racist bigoted prejudicial nature becomes visible.
But for now, there are still dog whistles. When Trump says he likes Cruz "nevertheless", it means that unless somebody is an evangelical christian the presumption is to not like the person until there becomes some reason to do so. That is the very definition of prejudice.

(2,807 posts)He knows that Repubic Iowans are probably xenophobic and communiphobic, so he throws out a "Cuban" thing to those that might not know Cruz is of Cuban descent. Simple really. Doesn't explain it, define it, or anything else, just says "Cuban". With this demographic, that's all it takes.

(47,625 posts)Yeah right Donald! He is so bad at this, I can't believe how well he's doing. Even his "dog whistles" (Cruz's father is Cuban) are as subtle as a foghorn.

This will bite Trump in a way many of the things he has said did not.
