Pot activists to honor Sanders with trail-blazer award

Source: The Hill

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will receive an award from marijuana activists Monday evening for his efforts to legalize the drug.

The Democratic presidential candidate will be honored at the High Times Business Summit in Washington, D.C., with the group’s first-ever trail blazer award.

Sanders, a self-desribed Democratic socialist, is backing legislation that would end the long-time federal prohibition on marijuana.
Currently, the federal government maintains a ban on marijuana — even in states that have legalized the drug.

The Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act introduced last month by Sanders would remove the barriers for states that want to legalize recreational and medical marijuana without interference from the federal government. However, other states could still choose to prohibit pot.

"We need major changes in our criminal justice system — including changes in drug laws,” Sanders recently told students at Virginia's George Mason University. “Too many Americans have seen their lives destroyed because they have criminal records as a result of marijuana use. That’s wrong. That has got to change.”

California's Medicinal Cannabis initiative put to the voters, and helped it succeed, and then she also set up the first marijuana collective for distributing pot to medicinal users.

Lynnette Shaw first began being harassed by Bill Clinton and Janet Reno back in the Nineteen Nineties.

She finally won her huge lawsuit against the Feds about two months ago - but anyone who thinks Team Hillary is going to be good to medicinal pot smokers must be smoking something!

It may or may not energize the electorate either way. I think it's a close call myself and don't dismiss it automatically on it's face.

"Socialist" and "pot head."
Any clue as to how conservative you sound?

Over 50% of this country thinks cannabis should be legal. Tens of thousands are languishing in prison due to being caught with as little as one joint. The fact that it is currently STILL a Schedule I drug (where Nixon placed it) even though there is absolutely no reason it should be is ludicrous and not grounded in science.

All of those very important elements to that issue are reduced to two words: "pot heads." I'm embarrassed for you.

And they aren't digging ditches either. You are a socialist too, but you just don't get it.
