Just as Trump hopes to, he (Macri) got to office with relentless media cheerleading. And you guessed it: Macri and Trump are very good friends.

He would need willing participants for that. The President's power is too limited (unless if he resorted to Executive orders). We would just have a very bad President.

One of his influences is executive/legal, but the other is basically being the frontman/spokesman for the USA. What we're seeing now is, even though he's not even in office, his bombast is highly complicating U.S. relations. Imagine if he was the official spokesperson and did this all the time. Worse than now, the media would pretty much be obligated to carry it, and that kind of rhetoric can endanger our people and relations all over the world. Even if he accomplished technically zero legally, he (as he already has) can seriously degrade our international relationships. Right now, they just blame Trump, but if he was in office they'd blame the country, and we can't excuse it away as (comparatively) easily as we are now.

That's my assumption. I can't believe they don't go after the idiot himself, I really think if one of them really hammered Trump on it, it would help. But then again, maybe my faith in the American electorate is being dismantled once again.

What's left of the diminishing-by-the-day base of the GOP is a relatively small (but still irresistible to our entertainment-obsessed media) cadre of bigots, xenophobes and billionaires. That's why all this hand wringing such as, "OMG!! Trump is at 70%!!11!" is silly. Even if Trump were to get 100% of the GOP primary vote, he'd still garner 25% at the most in any national general election.

Now they want to tell me we lost that war?

But what he's saying is just simply outright dangerous, and now it's not helping EITHER party. He's just a rich dilettante that's now endangering everyone with his speech. If he wanted to help, he should tone it down. The only other possiibility I can entertain is that he does want to help by screwing the GOP's chances, but he's not aware enough to do it properly. That helps with understanding his motivation, but the effect is regrettably the same.
