Thaddeus McCotter may not appear on election ballot

U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Livonia, may not have turned in enough signatures to qualify for the Aug. 7 primary ballot.

In a statement released earlier this evening, McCotter said he was informed by the Michigan Secretary of State offices that he hadn’t turned in enough valid signatures to get on the ballot. According to the SOS website, he turned in 2,000 signatures, the maximum allowable.

“Fully respecting the accuracy and integrity of the Secretary of State's office, we will thoroughly review our petition signatures for their sufficiency or insufficiency,” McCotter said in a statement released about 8:30 p.m. Friday. “Out of respect for Memorial Day, an announcement of our findings will be made public on Tuesday.”

The stunning news throws the 11th congressional race into turmoil. The newly drawn district runs from western Wayne County into southwest Oakland County and across into Birmingham and the Bloomfields.

3. "valid" being the key word.

2,000 total signature
MINUS not enough valid signatures
EQUALS too many invalid signatures.

the article mentions duplicate signatures in particular.

5. More accurate to say the newly Gerrymandered 11th.

I am currently in Gary Peter's (D-MI) district. I will be in McCotter's newly drawn 11th after this election. The way the Rethug legislature drew the new districts is criminal, IMHO, but of course, was allowed to stand. Looks like someone dropped a bowl of spaghetti.

So, this would at least be something. McCotter is a creep.

The deadline to file signatures for office was May 15. The Secretary of State's website said McCotter submitted 2,000 signatures, double the number necessary to qualify. Once signatures are submitted they can be challenged and no one challenged his petitions.

The Michigan Secretary of State elections office is reviewing the petitions and will make a report to the Board of State Canvassers by June 5.

7. Given how hush-hush the secretary of state seems to be and no doubt the extent to which they lack

transparency, I have no doubt in my mind Mccotter will stay on the ballot.

But I guess, only time will tell.

U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter considering running as write-in GOP candidate, source says

U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, who stunned Michigan politicos Friday when he said he may not have submitted enough signatures to get on the Aug. 7 primary ballot, will explore running as a write-in Republican candidate, said a source close to the McCotter campaign.

“He’s the only one with the name recognition and the cash on hand to win a write-in race,” the source said.

In his last report with the Federal Election Commission, McCotter reported $193,000 in cash available for the upcoming campaign.

But political insider Bill Ballenger, publisher of the Lansing-based newsletter Inside Michigan Politics, said McCotter’s flub is a sign of serious dysfunction in his campaign staff and could be an ominous sign for his chances as a write-in candidate.

10. Nepotism at it's best

This what happens when you hire your buddies and your relatives to run your campaign and staff your office. The gop believes that government doesn't work so they hire incompetent friends and relatives to fill critical positions and wonder when things go wrong.
You would think, they would have one person in charge of making sure they get the required signatures.

Good luck on that write in, misspelled names can be a bitch, especially with the uneducated gop voters.
