Chris Christie seeks to maximize key endorsements in New Hampshire
12/19/15 12:50 PM

WEARE, New Hampshire — As New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie paces in front of the numerous town halls his presidential campaign holds across New Hampshire, he looks prospective voters straight in the eye and makes his point clear: For the country — but also for — the stakes in this first-in-the-nation primary state couldn’t be higher.

“It’s game time,” he declares for his audiences in dramatic fashion. “The TV show is over. Entertainment time is over. It’s now time to decide who is the person to sit behind that desk.”

“You’re it,” he states. “America is counting on you. See, you and Iowa. You all get to take this field from 14 probably down to 4 or 5, and it’s happening in 7 weeks.”

Christie is embarking on a three and a half day bus tour through New Hampshire this weekend, returning once again to the state where he’s devoted considerable time and banked his presidential hopes.

Less than two months before this state’s critical first-in-the-nation primary, the Republican candidate still has serious ground to gain if he wants to claim victory, and he’s looking to capitalize on a string of recent local support in a way that some of his predecessors in past primaries could not.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Christie received a high-profile endorsement from the New Hampshire Union-Leader, the state’s largest newspaper with an influential editorial board.

The presidential campaign: Chris Christie
Christie has been polling in the single digits nationally, but his campaign has seen a boomlet — at least in the early voting state of New Hampshire
Within the span of a few days, he announced the support of well-known New Hampshire Republican activists Dan and Renee Plummer, former New Hampshire Speaker of the House Donna Sytek, former New Hampshire Congressman Bill Zeliff, and more. A week later, Christie nabbed the support of State Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley, a key local figure multiple other candidates were courting.

Sytek told NBC News she was also considering Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Marco Rubio, and Carly Fiorina, but ultimately picked Christie for his focus on addiction, reforming social security, the national debt. “I like Christie,” she said. “He’s right on the issues I care about and has a wonderful way of being plain spoken and not simplistic.”

“Everybody was competing for these endorsements and we are the ones who got them,” Christie told NBC News on the last day of November as he spoke to reporters while announcing the support of local law enforcement leaders. “These are all important because they are a validation to the people of New Hampshire from the folks that they respect and know, that these folks believe that I’m the best person to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States. But in the end, I gotta close the sale. It’s my job.”

The last thing you want is to end up getting jammed up . Too many is too much and too little . The odds must be reduced.

If he can win New Hampshire then he will be in the top tier along with Cruz and Trump. And the party establishment will rally behind him really fast.

If he keeps lifting his poll numbers in NH then people considering Bush/Kasich/Rubio/Fiorina may rally to his side as the establishment alternative. And if Cruz wins Iowa he could start to pull votes from Trump in New Hampshire. That could allow Christie to slip by Trump and get the win.

A last minute endorsement from Romney could matter in New Hampshire. Romney doesn't love Christie, but he will probably do whatever he has to in order to stop Trump. Also, Romney could try to quickly rally his former Nevada supporters behind Christie. Mormons represent a large percentage of Nevada caucus-goers.

The main advantage for Christie is that Rubio is being exposed as an empty suit. All those missed senate votes are going to start hurting him IMO. And he has a very weak organization in both Iowa and New Hampshire. He also hasn't spent as much time on the ground in those states as he could have.

So Christie could be starting a comeback at just the right time. The fact that his former senior staff is either going on trial, or likely being named as unindicted co-conspirators, is of limited concern to Republican primary voters. As long as he hates the right people, and acts like a bully, he has proven himself worthy of the White House in their minds.

That out in the open it stands to reason since he was made by those Bush's ,there has to be a long line of dirty shit since 2002 to uncover. Christie can run ,he sure as hell can ,but he cannot hide . Because after all it is what he has done that makes him what he is. He is a lier ,he is a crook and he is a low down dirty thug. He said at the launch of his presidential bid he doesn't know where it will all end up or how far it will go. Truth is it's always the stupid mistakes they make that gets them caught. Eventually and before long his pattern will be subject to full exposure. The bridge comes with a long line of dirty despicable deeds Christie himself ordered and saw to it what he ordered was done.

And Christie is a I'll show you how it's done kind of guy ,in fact he prides himself in that. And so you can believe he showed his key go to people exactly how he himself gets his revenge or seeks out a vindictive plan than exacutes the dirty deed.He got them to do it,but than there is his problem of being a hands on guy- so he is compelled to stick his hands down in places where a seasoned well groomed crook mob type boss never would. Richard Nixon was known for having thet very same problem- sticking his hands or nose in places the presidents hands or nose should have never been !

Christie is a nobody, thats what Trump knows and has known all along. Who knows maybe the both of them will drop off at the same time !

It really would come as no surprise should Christie be hauled off of one of his up close and personal campaign stops like this guy !

At least I would imagine Christie's abrupt end will come in a way similar -up close and personal for all to see.

Nobody's going to take a chance on somebody who could be, as pointed out above, hauled off to the slammer.

Christie is in this race for one reason and one reason only--he is delusional. Because he's a bully, no one is willing to deliver the truth to him.

campaign then a large percentage of the GOP electorate will respond with understanding and sympathy. Facts won't get in their way.

I think if Christie was in the White House we would have another Nixon on our hands.

New Hampshire campaign making modest gains.

I had hoped his chances were kaput a long while back.

What a miserable president he would make.

Love seeing some in the GOP backing Christie because his campaign is going to implode with the upcoming bridge trial this spring. Maybe the Christie camp is delusional and think their is no concrete evidence to show Christie was involved or maybe he and his backers think they can post pone the trial until after the election and if he wins he can sweep it under the rug. I am not sure what motivates Christie but understand he is probably lying and I believe the truth ALWAYS comes out sooner or later as sure as the sun rises tomorrow.

Likely it is anger that motivates Christie to get past his conscience and that leaves us with a psycho man that will try and do anything to get elected and that leaves the GOP vulnerable.

pass the popcorn please!
