The shooting of a man inside East Towne Mall on Saturday during a busy holiday shopping afternoon prompted a Republican lawmaker to criticize gun-free zones and call on average citizens to “help clean our society of these scumbags.”

The statement Monday from Rep. Bob Gannon, R-Slinger, prompted a blistering reply from a Madison lawmaker, who said he was seeking vigilante justice.

Gannon said allowing citizens with permits to carry concealed weapons into areas like shopping malls would enhance the public’s safety.

..................

Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, said she was “appalled” by Gannon’s statement, characterizing his comments as a call “for a vigilante uprising.”...............

As always, when it comes to defining who, exactly, is or is not a scumbag, YMMV.

Better. My husband and kids were parking the car to head in there when. All this happened. Great explaining to the kids that police arriving at a mall emptying of shoppers from every door is just part of Republican America.

they kill people all the time for appearing to be a possible law breaker, or just uncooperative. Yes, we really need plain clothed, untrained people with guns running around deciding who is a good guy or bad guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be---------------------- not only afraid, but to pack that heat and be armed and PARANOID with fear.

This hypocrite, doesn't even realize that if the shopping mall had a sign at the entrance or property that said no guns allowed they wouldn't be held liable, but they can in some sense be held liable -----------------------and since this "guy" doesn't realize that this is a liability issue, are could become a liability issue to the mall just shows how short sighted this "guy" thinks.

His right wing thought is to have everyone packing heat---------------------no liability, just bang bang, shoot-em-up like some damn cowboy movie, and then rant about some gun free zones-------------is he serious there are over 300 million guns in this country, having billy-boy or sue driving in truck or car into these so called zones-----------------that is joke----------------------ban guns and bullets-----------------problem solved.

Might as well go into the local branch of the bank with your good old side arm on and see what they think, if it's on the mall property-------------------who is liable--------------the paranoid idiot with the gun, or the mall operator, or the bank----------------------there is no common sense from this "guy"--------------------none

He probably goes traipsing around about this or that on the second amendment better arm yourself, shoot first and ask questions later mentality.

I would just wonder what he would do if he was in that situation, and I just wonder if he would just go traipsing around in a mall with a gun----------------what a idiot.

We have a "guy" running in our town as a republican hypocrite saying the same crap---------------------pull on the heart strings, and they in essence create more heart strings, and on top of that spread more fear and paranoia ---------------amazing

Honk-----------------it about the getting a progressive U.S. Supreme Court and Congress and state governments

Darkened theater. Someone starts shooting. Other patrons pull out their weapons. The first one shoots at the flash from the first weapon. The second person sees the first responding shooter and fires in that direction. Pretty soon you have several people shooting in different directions. People are getting caught in the crossfire. The police arrive. How can they know who the "bad guy" is?

does not make it okay to shoot other people, even if you think that they might do something bad, or they look "evil".
It's not okay.

So Sen Gannon would support someone who considered him to be a "scumbag" and followed through with his line of 'reasoning'?
