Kentucky alters marriage licenses citing County Clerk Kim Davis and religious beliefs

Source: WAAY-TV

Bill Young byoung@waaytv.com

The Governor of Kentucky has ordered that County Clerk names be removed from state marriage licenses, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday.

The move comes in response to the legal battle this summer involving {Rowan} County Clerk Kim Davis. She was jailed after she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples and cited her religious beliefs as the reason.

This change is designed to protect the religious beliefs of clerks who do not want to have his or her name present on a marriage license for a same-sex couple.

Governor removes names of clerks from marriage licenses

By ADAM BEAM Associated Press

FRANKFORT, Ky. —

Kentucky Republican Gov. Matt Bevin ordered the state to prepare new marriage licenses that do not include the names of county clerks, in an attempt to protect the religious beliefs of clerk Kim Davis and other local elected officials.

Bevin said he directed the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to issue the revised marriage license forms to all county clerks. The executive order comes after Davis, the Rowan County clerk, spent five days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Davis said she could not issue the licenses because they had her name on them.

Bevin said he issued the executive order to "ensure that the sincerely held religious beliefs of all Kentuckians are honored." It was one of five executive orders he issued Tuesday, the first of his administration, that mostly revised or suspended recent actions by former Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear.
....

It's unclear how Bevin's order will affect a federal lawsuit brought by four couples against Davis. One of Davis' deputy clerks has been issuing altered marriage licenses to eligible couples since September. They do not include Davis' name or the name of the county.

Kentucky's ACLU legal director William Sharp on order to have county clerk names taken off marriage licenses: 'Gov. Bevin's executive action has added to the cloud of uncertainty that hangs over marriage licensing in Kentucky.
The requirement that the county clerk's name appear on marriage licenses is prescribed by Kentucky law and is not subject to unilateral change by the governor .
..Today, however, a new administration claims to have that authority' -

The voters in that area wanted this Kim individual. So I guess she's doing what they asked her to do. Not every place is as great as where we all live. I am glad most of the time Maryland does good with all. But some areas of the country aren't as fortunate.

but that's little solace having a guy like Bevin for governor. I remember when KY was a Blue state. A blue machine. Now.....
The very first day my new next door neighbor moves in, I meet the guy's father. He starts talking about contrails---those things in the sky and chemicals. MAN! I was just outside doing yard work when he approached me. I kept my mouth shut and was polite. He goes on and on. I smiled, sang a song in my head to keep my brain from exploding. Then I hear him say "Obama." I say, excuse me, whatdidya say? And he repeated one of the ridiculous untrue crazy things about Obama. I say, excuse me, what did you say your name is? Ok, well Fred (whatever it was) I voted for President Obama--twice-- and I like him a lot and approve of about 80% of the job he's doing. So Fred, I'm just not the right person you should be talking to about him. He sputtered, then was speechless and I got back to my yard work, grateful that he was only visiting his son and not living with him.

The DNC and national party seem to ignore KY and other states with few electoral votes. So they go red. They don't help develop good viable candidates either.

And it's only part of the problem...the other part is stupid voters! I read an article in Yahoo News and two people interviewed, both republicans, one was a older gentleman who voted for Bevin, because Bevin was against ObamaCare...without realizing the connection between the ACA and Kynect!

The other was a single mother who had just got signed up for Kynect, that was going to help her with a blood test for her condition...when asked why she would vote against her best interest...she replied "I guess I'm just a die hard Republican"!

The DNC not giving a damn, combined with stupid voters!!!

Hiding your identity on the form doesn't "protect" your religious rights in any way that I can see.
