Evangelist Franklin Graham slams, quits GOP
Source: Fox News
Shame on the Republicans and the Democrats for passing such a wasteful spending bill last week, he said. And to top it off, funding Planned Parenthood!
Graham, who had previously slammed both political parties, let his frustration flow on a Facebook posting.
Seeing and hearing Planned Parenthood talk nonchalantly about selling baby parts from aborted fetuses with utter disregard for human life is reminiscent of Joseph Mengele and the Nazi concentration camps!, he wrote. That shouldve been all that was needed to turn off the faucet for their funding. Nothing was done to trim this 2,000 page, $1.1 trillion budget.....

Look, I know "Fox" is not terribly reputable, though it is mainstream, but I didn't find anyone else carrying this rather freaky news--it was linked via Google. Also, this guy is ostensibly "religious," but this is rather big news, to see one of the loyal GOP religious operatives shove the Greedy Old Party under the bus.
This hate-filled poop flinger is going to have to go somewhere; can't imagine where he'll end up. The Fascists aren't running a candidate this cycle, I don't think...

Frank shocked the fundie crowd with his rejection of right wing conservatism. He was even defrocked temporarily as a Methodist minister for performing a gay wedding.

(50,560 posts)He, and a lot of other GOPers, want the government to stop spending money - especially on those nasty social programs - and to not only stop funding but actually outlaw Planned Parenthood. Because the new budget does neither, and not because the GOP has turned into a band of unstable whackjobs, is the reason Franklin Graham left the party.

I want every Democrat and rational-thinking Independent to stand up for women's health, privacy, choice, and the separation of church and state. Graham opposes all of this, and unfortunately has a mighty big megaphone which he is not shy about using. Bt every minute he spends sniping at other Republicans is a moment he could otherwise be doing worse things, so there is a bit of a silver lining...

(5,376 posts)But alas, was not to be. Shoulda known as much. We are talking about Franklin Graham, after all, who has proved his true character time and time again. Or perhaps I should say lack thereof. I think he should have a conversation with Frank Schaeffer, but pretty sure that won't happen, and wouldn't change Franklin's mind anyhow. Sigh...
Cheers and Happy Holidays.

(RNS) Evangelist Franklin Graham has announced he is abandoning the Republican Party in disgust over the move by the GOP-led Congress last week to pass a budget that Graham said was wasteful and provided funding for Planned Parenthood, which he compared to the Nazis.
Graham has previously said he has no faith in any political party, but his apparent renunciation of his Republican affiliation is an indication of anger on the right and the strong interest many disaffected evangelicals have shown in populist outsiders like Donald Trump.
Graham himself has expressed admiration for Trump, the surprise frontrunner in the Republican presidential field, and has voiced support for some of Trumps more controversial positions such as his call to ban Muslims from the U.S. which have drawn condemnation from more mainstream evangelical leaders.
...
The federal government provides $528 million in funding for Planned Parenthood about 40 percent of the organizations annual budget primarily through payments to Medicaid for health services for low-income Americans. Federal law prohibits funding of most abortions and Planned Parenthood separates federal taxpayer dollars from those used to provide abortions.
