Boko Haram attacks Nigerian city, killing at least 80

Source: Chicago Tribune

Boko Haram Islamic extremists struck a city and a town in northeastern Nigeria with rocket-propelled grenades and multiple suicide bombers Monday, killing at least 80 people, witnesses said.

In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, at least 30 were killed and more than 90 wounded in overnight blasts and shootouts, and another 20 died in a bombing outside a mosque at dawn Monday, said Muhammed Kanar, area coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency.

A twin suicide bombing also killed at least 30 people in Madagali, a town 150 kilometers (95 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, witnesses said. Danladi Buba said two women blew themselves up at a market near a busy bus station at about 9 a.m. Brig. Gen. Victor Ezugwu, the officer commanding in northeast Adamawa State, confirmed the attack but said casualties have yet to be established.

The attacks appear to be a challenge to President Muhammadu Buhari's declaration last week that Nigerian security forces have "technically won the war" against Boko Haram and that it is now capable of no more than suicide bombings on soft targets.

Cannot wait to see all the Farce'book photos with added Nigerian flags. Oh wait, I forgot that All Lives Matter is a lie.

Last I heard, possession of firearms in Nigeria remains illegal. #insertcommonsensehere #sarcasm

They're not relevant to rocket-propelled grenades or suicide bombers.

Link has a picture of an AK. AKs were also used in the attack. AKs are their primary weapon. RPGs are also firearms or more accurately small arms.

The most interesting thing about these Boko fools is that they are completely intolerant of any political view that does not conform or match their own.

but plenty of people are upset about Boko Haram, and have been for a while. perhaps you've forgotten #bringbackourgirls? 2 of whom were likely used as suicide bombers in this attack.

Boko Haram are not fools, they are religious fanatics. they won't stop until they're dead or out of ammunition.

and an armed populace in that region won't stop suicide bombs. it never has anywhere.

enjoy your stay.

Guess you didn't like what I said, which would be more accurate. I'm okay with you not liking it.

All lives matter remains a lie. I'm white and I see it is a lie. One would have to be either blind or a bigot not to see the lie at this point. I should be angry, but I'm too old to be as passionate as some of you good people. So be it. I don't care if my view doesn't impresses you so give up.

I will be voting and it will count, assuming the voting machines are not hacked. Not a damn thing you can do about it.

The criticism you're making was of the Euro-centric reaction to Paris versus Beirut, which has been addressed ad nauseum on DU, and has jack to do with #BLM.

I don't like what you said because you're basically leaving no way that "White People", or any Westerner for that matter, can react appropriately to Boko Haram attacks. I've got news for you: People, ALL PEOPLE, have no idea how to react. Shit is COMPLICATED and horrifying.

Besides, attacks in the Nigerian Sahel aren't exactly akin to Paris, because they are tragically common and ongoing, and complicated by the historically lackadaisical and incompetent responses of the Nigerian Government. The way that sectarian bombings in Iraq are. The world becomes numbed to it. One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic, etc.

I'm sick of the thread-jacking, hyperbole and black-or-white judgments here on DU, and I'm calling them out. So either you don't understand the context, or you don't care because your agenda is attacking #alllivesmatter. Which I could give a fuck about.

FOCUS.

All lives matter is bs. These issues are linked and tomorrow, no one will take about the 80 lives taken or why it happened. So what if my agenda is not exactly yours step-for-step. Boo-hoo.

And yeah, I don't expect you to click on the link. Close minded. The link is for other people will to hear old-school Liberal views.

Your link is a rant about 'All Lives Matter' v. 'Black Lives Matter', or a hypothetical AIDS v. breast cancer dispute. That is not about Nigeria, or even Paris. Your opinion that RPGs are 'small arms' might be appropriate in a military armory, but not in the general world. All you seem to have pointed out is that the weapons used to kill more than 80 people were illegal in that country. No shit, Sherlock. Where does that observation get us?

"Guess you didn't like what I said, which would be more accurate"

Guesses and inferences are rarely accurate, regardless of whether you vote, are white, too old or simply don't care-- all of which, being completely irrelevant to the OP, will be given all the credibility that are in fact, due.

"not sure why you're so angry at FB, or why there's RKBA snark in your comment"

I'm guessing a combination of liquor, and a desire to refit all current news releases into a one-size-fits-all irrational fit of pique...

The lowest on the pecking order forced to suicide bomb. It only takes a generation for groups like Boko Harem to rot an entire country. The countries "rulers" live in very small compounds one big attack in the right place and the country will have no Leaders or 'government left.
