Jeb Bush on Tamir Rice: "The process worked"
Source: CNN.com
Lexington, South Carolina (CNN)GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush, weighing in on the decision not to indict police officers in last year's shooting of Tamir Rice, said a grand jury has made a decision and that "the process worked."
"If there is a grand jury that looks at all the facts and doesn't indict maybe there's reasons for that," he told reporters after a town hall in Lexington, South Carolina. "I don't believe that every grand jury is racist."
The former Florida governor initially confused the case with another high profile police shooting case in Chicago when he was asked about Rice.

Of course he confused the case with another. But, he could have asked an aide beforehand. "Which police shooting is this one again?"
I don't think he can sink any faster so, whatever, Jeb.

(57,099 posts)the process has once again allowed the shooting of unarmed, non resisting black males continue without any sanctions against the mostly white cops that perpetuate this outrage.
Like I needed just one more reason to refrain from voting for Jeb! Bush.

(29,251 posts)Right, Jeb, not *every* grand jury is racist.
A blanket, not so subtle way of diminishing BLM. And a classic trope for discrediting any group that's discriminated against. ("Oh, quit yer whining."

(57,099 posts)no matter what. It is truly frightening that committing murder for some is so simple and they even get to go back on the force usually.

The prosecutor tells the grand jury the law (and that this is not a trial, just searching for "probably cause" . The prosecutor tells the grand jury exactly as many "facts" as s/he wants them to know. Funny how the grand juries always bring in what the prosecutor wants. Really, really needs reform, that system does.

(45,984 posts)Perhaps not every grand jury is racist, but even one that isn't racist can be guided by a racist district attorney to dismiss charges against errant police officers making questionable life-or-death decisions. This has happened more than once in the last year, most notably in this case and the case in Ferguson.
These and other cases are examples of institutional racism. The "racist" DA involved may only be racist insofar as he has no problem protecting his career at the expense of justice for Afro-American children or young adults. Meanwhile, more overt racists with no careers to protects will refer to the victims as "thugs" and assert, without showing much real interest in the matter, that the officer acted properly.
