Cops: Drunk driver shoots video, posts it on Facebook

Source: CBS News

An Ohio man took cellphone video of himself drinking while driving and posted it on Facebook, according to police.

Someone tipped off deputies about the video after it was posted Monday, and the vehicle was stopped that afternoon south of Columbus, in Hamilton Township, the Franklin County sheriff's office said.

A copy of the 12-second video provided by the sheriff's office shows a man sitting in a vehicle, looking into the camera while music plays in the background, then raising his eyebrows and taking a swig from a partially covered bottle. He doesn't speak. As the clip ends, the camera is flipped around to show a hand with only one finger raised to guide the steering wheel as a wiper moves across the vehicle's windshield.
The driver, who police identified as Dustin Rittgers, 28, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Franklin County Municipal Court on five misdemeanor charges, including operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and having an open container in a vehicle........

Court records indicate Rittgers pleaded guilty earlier this year in a separate impaired-driving case stemming from a September 2014 stop by state troopers.

Addiction = BAD THING.

Glad one of his Facebook friends cared enough to respond appropriately and hope this man gets his stuff together before his self medicated depression gets much worse.

(based on what looks like UTTERLY STUPID behavior) he cannot be allowed to endanger other people in his search for help. But he obviously needs some help and my guess is that no one in his life has been able to intervene adequately prior to this (which I am assuming based on his previously conviction - these things rarely happen in a vacuum).

The Darwin Awards were made for people like this guy. Seriously, I hope he gets help for his problem.

If he was drinking alcohol, then posting the video was pretty stupid. If the container held coffee, then posting the video is, well, still pretty stupid.

Having an open container in a vehicle? Is this law limited to alcohol, or does it include bottled water, coffee, etc?

If you have half a bottle of liquor in your car but are completely sober, it is still against the law.
