Powerball jackpot rises to $334M, 12th-highest in history
Source: AP
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) The Powerball jackpot has risen to $334 million, the 12th largest in the game's history.
No one won the jackpot on Wednesday, and the next drawing is set for Saturday. The lump-sum cash prize for the winner is $205 million.
Iowa Lottery spokesman Kevin Kirkpatrick says the prize hasn't been this large since March 2013, when a New Jersey man won $338 million.
Powerball's largest jackpot was more than $590 million in May 2013. Kirkpatrick says the game would have to continue a few more rounds without a winner before it could reach that level.

(14,779 posts)If I win, I want lower taxes for people for that will benefit me. Anyone who supports government aid to Education, the environment, welfare are just leaches on the system who wants to STEAL my hard earned money I won in the lottery. Minorities have problems because they do not do as I do, work hard and win the lottery, and that failure to work hard is why they are poor, not the system is rigged against them. Given my then no found love of right wing causes, everyone on DU will annoy me so no one will get the Million dollars.
There I be an orphan without any blood relatives just money to spend on myself...Shut up I NEVER lived with any of you when I was growing up, I lived in a gutter by myself, pulled myself by my own hands, worked at night so I could buy clothes and school supplies, NOT in a home with you and YOUR parents (By the way, since I did not win the lottery what are we buying Mother for New Years day?).

Some people say it is stupid to buy these tickets. Yes, if you think you can somehow beat the odds by buying way too many tickets. It's a matter of if lightening strikes, then you take advantage of it, but don't throw away too much money you can't afford to.

(18,791 posts)I think it should pay out 334 1 million dollar or even 668 half million dollar prizes.
Increase the number of people who win and increase the odds.
If 334 people pick the winning numbers.
How do you increase the number of people who win?

(14,757 posts)and distribute the prize money to more levels.
Right now, they are changing the rules. So you go to 1 in 292,201,338, up from 1 in 175,223,510. Now they claim they are increasing the odds of winning smaller amounts, but they are intentionally increasing the pots by reducing anyone's chances of hitting it.
You could see $500M jackpots under the new odds. But rest assured, the states will keep more than they are today, not less.

I would not be surprised to see it hit one billion in the coming years.

I just went outside and commanded the lottery numbers to match the numbers on my lottery ticket and it will do exactly what I said to do because God game me the authority to do that.
So you all can just stay home!

Now, how stupid is that?
