Kirk's ex-wife files FEC complaint questioning campaign payments

Source: Chicago Tribune

Soon after Mark Kirk's ex-wife announced she would no longer support his 2010 run for the U.S. Senate, he brought her onto his campaign team, then quietly paid her after his victory.

But Kimberly Vertolli, a lawyer who received $40,000 from the campaign, again is at odds with her ex-husband, filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging that Kirk and his then-girlfriend may have broken campaign finance law.

The girlfriend, Dodie McCracken, who works in public relations, has acknowledged receiving more than $143,000 in fees and expenses for her campaign work. A former live-in girlfriend, she is no longer romantically involved with Kirk, according to a campaign aide.

Kirk's campaign has characterized Vertolli as an aggrieved ex-wife and labeled "groundless" her complaint filed late last year about payments to McCracken.

Prosecute. If it's good enough for John Edwards it's good enough for Kirk. crazylikafox May 2012 #3

they worked so hard to get into Obama's former seat, it would serve them right to lose it. Since they also worked to prove that Edwards is a crook, when he is nothing more than a philanderer, this would put them on notice that it is NOT okay when a republican does it!

Kirk is also too unhealthy to remain in office. He had a stroke, and probably will never come back physically. They keep saying he is "mentally sharp," but he is paralyzed on one side, and not in good physical condition.

My brother had a stroke when he was fifty-one. I know how hard it is. He did come back well from it, but he has one numb spot on a leg, and one on his upper arm. He walks with a cane, for balance. Occasionally, he has memory problems. I don't notice, but he does. He went back to work and functioned well, but it was hard, hard, hard. I can't imagine going back to the Senate, where there is so much pressure, when Kirk has recovered even less than my brother, who was lucky and worked hard to achieve a recovery. I don't wish him ill health, but he should stay home.

Nice work, hypocrites. May you get what you deserve.
