Dozens of Detroit schools close due to teacher protest

Source: AP

DETROIT (AP) — A wave of teacher absences described by an activist as "rolling strikes" shut down more than half of Detroit's 100 public schools Monday, keeping thousands of students at home as a so-called sick-out entered a second week.

A handful of high schools were forced to close last week due to teachers calling in sick. But the action Monday was more dramatic as more teachers stayed home.

The Detroit district with 46,000 students has been in turmoil, struggling with millions of dollars in debt, poor morale among staff and families that have other school choices for their kids.

Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican, wants to pay off the debt and spin off a new district, but he lacks support so far in the Legislature. There are no ongoing negotiations between teachers and schools, which are run by a Snyder-appointee, emergency manager Darnell Earley.

there....................
They have a governor and his "APPOINTED" non-elected "emergency mangers, the corrupt legislature and courts, making life and death decisions based on pure greed, and this guy Snyder still hasn't figured out to bring in tanker trucks of water to Flint with the National Guard (Federal recognize Militia), but he can poison the children and every adult in the city of Flint---------------amazing.

And to add more insanity and cause further damage to the education system, under this guy's tenure so far, they are paying over 6 million to a coach who was a former 49 niners coach, instead of putting that money from tax payers money into the K-12 system, this hypocrite wants to have-------------------- a Have and Have Not school districts--------------and create more division within the citizenry of the state, with the Blame game------------------amazing

to the point that the good citizens the same citizens that, if they still have a paying job, union backed union job, are paying property taxes to support the Colleges and the K-12 education system all at the same time, which this inept governor wants to gut and cut so that they can be privatized to make some other charter school entity CEO rich off the same tax payers, instate and out of state colleges for a profit is wrong in my opinion.

And if the K-12 system was guaranteed money from the "media" to broadcast the games---------------no problem, but there little tykes and tykettes, they don't do so well on the greed machine until much later.

So when this country is compared to lets say, Denmark, where it costs "everyone" $900.00 more in taxes to get a education and in this country (Denmark) is ranked pretty good on many factors like happiness, and lifestyle, doctor care, medical coverage , ect........and then in this country we are ranked at 18th in education and lifestyle, health care is really not that good, because this country is still paying overhead costs in the insurance industry of around 17-23% compared to Medicare, which is 4-7% , and 23 million people are in perpetual hunger------then this reflects on education ranking.

This country goes around and touts itself as number 1 --------------really, in defense spending---- yeah, but in the choices of social programs and education---------------still 18.

So, when some high school doesn't make thousands in revenue because of the lack of entertainment value, and the college has to pay some media empire to broadcast the shows and give millions to the NCAA for entertainment value, and then the public gets some infomercial during the game on the college and don't say anything like how much the overhead costs are, and the players are paying for there education and not to be able to get money or join a union to protect themselves from the lost scholarships if they get hurt from getting slammed on the field I have a problem with that.

They, the citizens of that state and all of those parents that brought there young adults to those Colleges paid tuition fees, to support a 23 million dollars new football stadium, so the college could make a profit off whom and what, that holds 85,000 plus people.

Plus they get to pay a guy over 6 million dollars a year to jump up and down and have his carotid vessels look like they are going to explode, because he really is a jerk in my opinion, because let's not forget he was from the college and he was only thinking about students when he took the job, and not for the money-------------------right -----------because he said so.

I could rant some more-----------------but the bottom line is------------------ greed is not good, and education should not be geared to a profit-----------------in my opinion

Have a nice day
