Source: Seattle Times

A man suspected of shooting five people at a University District cafe shot himself as police closed in on him on a West Seattle sidewalk Wednesday afternoon.

SUV and killed a woman in West Seattle. The SPD can't stop crimes, but they almost always catch the killers. Perhaps we'll learn this man's story soon, why he did it.

All of these incidents were related, but I'm not sure if it's possible one person did this in all the places mentioned:

I don't live that far south, but I do know that the SPD, for all their faults, usually get a grip on such things quickly with community help. A picture at the link of the neighborhood the SUV was abandoned at seems so beautiful, as so many are. There was no need for him to kill those people, don't know why he did it.

how he would have gotten from the U District and then down to the Town Hall in my neighborhood to do the other carjacking/murder. Seems he would have had to jack another car in the U District. Pretty sure he didn't take the bus!

The man fatally shot himself in the head on a West Seattle sidewalk as police closed in.

He is believed by police to have killed three people and wounded two others at Café Racer Espresso in the University District earlier Wednesday. A half-hour later, a woman was shot to death near Town Hall in the First Hill neighborhood by a man who fled the scene in a black SUV.

Assistant Seattle Police Chief Jim Pugel said "we now feel confident in connecting the two" shootings. Earlier, police had said they were not sure if the same man was responsible.

Apparently the shooter did the cafe shootings, then made his way to downtown Seattle, shot the woman, took her SUV, fled to West Seattle, and police closed in on him, he then shot himself in the head.
( very considerate of him, too)

Witnesses to the second shooting told police a woman and man were arguing in a parking lot
when the man pulled out a pistol and shot the woman in the head.
He took off in a black Mercedes sport-utility vehicle

Wonder if any of them had criminal records
or

Apparently he didn't show her the gun, just demanded the car. She argued with him, he pulled out the gun and shot her and took the car.

Very sad day all around. None of these people needed to die. Not even the shooter.

They now think that a man shot several people in a cafe in North Seattle, then hijacked a car in downtown Seattle and killed another woman, then abandoned the hijacked car in West Seattle. The police distributed the Cafe shooter's photo (taken from surveillance photos at the Cafe). A policeman in West Seattle who was looking for the downtown carjacker spotted a man who looked like the cafe photo, and called other officers in. They surrounded him and he shot himself.

Now it turns out that witnesses had reported a particular item on both the shooter at the Cafe and the shooter in downtown Seattle -- that's how police feel comfortable saying it was the same person (even though the downtown carjacker was first reported to be blonde.)
