NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Authorities say a firefighter was shot to death while responding to a medical emergency call at a rural home near Little Rock.
Pulaski County Sheriff's Office Capt. Carl Minden says 29-year-old Ronald Jason Adams of the East Pulaski Volunteer Fire Department was responding to a call of a person having a seizure at about 5 a.m. Friday when he was shot by a man at the home. Minden says Adams later died at a North Little Rock hospital.
Minden says Adams also worked as a full-time firefighter with the nearby Sherwood Fire Department.
Minden says a suspect in the shooting is being questioned by police.

A firefighter was fatally shot while responding to a patient with a seizure Friday morning in Pulaski County, a spokesman with the sheriff's office said.
Officials identified the firefighter as Ronald Jason Adams, 29, who went by his middle name and was a full-time member of the Sherwood Fire Department in addition to volunteering with the East Pulaski Fire Department.
Adams was working for the volunteer agency when he responded to a report on Dortch Loop Road outside North Little Rock around 5 a.m. and was shot, Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said.
Adams was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock and pronounced dead, Minden said.

(17,865 posts)He had no duty to retreat in Arkansas. It is going to be an interesting case to follow. What duty does the homeowner have in assessing the threat in advance of shooting. If the answer is none, then it might dramatically change the interaction of fire and other personnel called to the scene. It also opens a can on worms when one party gives consent to enter a domicile and the other party either does not know or objects to it.
He should be charged with murder as far as I am concerned. He may be able to argue diminished capacity if he just came out of a seizure.

(8,175 posts)The victims wife reportedly called 911 and told Noblett that the victim came out of the seizure and looked up grabbed the gun and shot him, he said in the TV interview. This version of events has not been confirmed by law enforcement, who are still investigating.
The guy supposedly having a seizure woke up and shot the medical volunteer?
Something doesn't really sound right about this.

(8,175 posts)He might have been very confused and could easily make judgement errors...but WTF was he doing with a gun in the first place? Or did he have a seizure while cleaning or kissing his gun?

(8,175 posts)maybe should not be allowed a gun in the house?

(3,384 posts)I really wish the media and all other reports specifically listed either a handgun or rifle.
I hate handguns, but rifles are okay in book to satisfy and 2nd Ammendment right demands.
