Iran to buy 114 Airbus planes this week: minister

Source: Yahoo! News / AFP

Tehran (AFP) - Iran will sign a contract this week to buy 114 Airbus planes from France, during a visit to Paris by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Tehran's transport minister said Sunday.

Abbas Akhoundi, quoted by Iranian media, said the deal "will be signed between Iran Air and Airbus" when Rouhani is in Paris on Wednesday on the final day of his first official European visit.

Rouhani's trip follows the implementation of a nuclear deal with world powers that curbs Tehran's atomic activities in exchange for the lifting of punishing economic sanctions.

Iran desperately needs to modernise its ageing passenger plane fleet, which has only 150 operational planes out of more than 250, according to Akhoundi.

Selling 114 Boeing 767s at more than $100 million each. That would mean more than $11 billion or more flowing into the U.S. economy.

Individually aimed.

Yet, when you compare Iran and the Saudis, I seriously believe that Iran is a far better potential ally than the house of Saud. See what years of propaganda will do to us?

My friends and I have debated about which would be the better ally to America; Saudi Arabia or Iran.

We all agreed that Iran and America would be better off as friend than enemy. Its our own government in Washington D.C. rather to keep the latter over the former.

Sad.

7. Boeing will get a contract too, they need a lot more planes than that.

They're using 70's Boeing and Airbus planes and whatever scary garbage they could get from the Russians. Boeing and Airbus are both badly backordered, so there isn't a lack of demand.

... and the end result is bad for American business. That's a prime example of blowback, right there.

Airbus does build some aircraft in the US, but an order for 100+ new Boeing planes would have been sooooo much better for American workers and businesses.

The Seahawks need to run the warhawks outta town.

(Sadly, even this cool plane is now parked in the AZ desert, waiting for a buyer)
